The Friendly Beasts December 13, 2011

Santas come in all shapes, sizes and colors . . . tall ones, short ones, thin ones, fat ones, jolly ones . . . and even furry ones!
Here are a few of my four-legged Santas.
“I,” said the cow all white and red,
“I gave Him my manger for His bed.”
“I gave Him my hay to pillow His head.”
“I,” said the cow all white and red.

Good Tuesday morning Nancy! Your 4 leg Santas make me smile. The tall Santa Cat my favorite, of course 🙂 I had to do the shopping thing for family Christmas yesterday. All Day. I am not a shopper. Believe me, I had to think of several of your calming posts.
I hear ya, Pix! Shopping isn’t my bag either. 😉 Glad you survived to SMILE another day.
My sister gave us the Al E. Gator Santa before we moved to FL. Everytime I see it, I think, “We’re here.”
Aah . . . that’s better!
love the garfield!
Garfield is a cat with purr-sonality. 😀
Love the santa Garfield 🙂
Garfield’s got ATTITUDE! 😉
Now that is an adorable collection! I love them all! Bet Garfield is claiming to be the star of the group!
Definitely. He (like many/ most/ all) cats thinks he’s the STAR of the show. 😉
Loving the Santas….just like us…all shapes and sizes, every one magical. xoxo
Yes, Jackie! I agree.
Their vast and unique diversity
Enables us to clearly see
There is no “one right way” to be! 😀
I remember a Santa from when I was about 5. He had white bandage tape holding his mustache on and there was a hint of whiskey about him. That’s when the whole fraudulent adult world became apparent. Easter Bunny and that cheap(40 cents a tooth) Tooth Fairy were bunk too I soon decided. I still don’t trust adults.
Maybe you should watch a few holiday specials with your grandkids, Carl . . . you’re sounding a bit GRINCH~Y! 😉
Love the cow!
He wishes you a Merry Christ~moos! 😛
I like that tall kitty. 🙂
It’s hard to see in the photo . . . but the cat has a little mouse sitting next to his feet.
They are too sweet, Nancy!
Christmas Critters! 😀
What a delightful collection!
Thanks, Cecelia! Congrats on finishing out the semester in time to enjoy this festive time of year.
Happy Hanukkah!
I am really enjoying your collection, Nancy. It refreshes my Christmas spirit. 🙂
I am enjoying this Open House immensely, Andra.
Best of all . . . I don’t have to worry about whether there are any dust bunnies lurking about under the beds. 😛
the robotic, the rakish, the innocent, and the guilty-as-sin-ish… oddly, I like the latter best (hehe) 😉
As Billy Joel noted, “I’d rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints . . . the sinners are much more FUN.” 😉
The cow is my absolute favorite!
He’s udderly delighted with your comment, Greg! 😆
I don’t know about Garfield. He looks more like a mischievous little elf trying to pass himself off as Santa.
He looks like the cat who swallowed the . . . lasagna! 😀
Al E Gator…brought a smile to my face….terrific!…love it1
Al E Gator is good friends with Hugh Manatee. 😀
So cute–betcha can guess which is my favorite…
Yes. I can!

Love your Santa collection! Your house must look really festive right now. Happy Holidays!
Thanks, Theresa. It looks quite Christmas-y . . . merry, bright, and festive!
I would watch that cow, Nancy – solipsistic and subversive creatures 😉
Sneaky rabbits? 😀
These are so cute!!
Thanks, Robyn. We equate fat jolly creatures with red coats and hats as givers of glad tidings. Beard optional. 😀
I love your cow but your cat is pretty cool too. Wait till you see today’s post, you won’t believe it. It will be up later today. It is by far my BEST cow spotting of the year, courtesy of Target.
Thought you might get a kick out of a cow santa. I’ll check out your post shortly.
These are great! And I’m loving the books behind them 🙂
Mystical . . . Magical . . . Miracles! 😀
I love that cow… Santa as a small animal… what a great idea! The cow got me. 😉
Excellent! Have Moo~rry Christmas! 😀
ah, now there’s memories stirred up for me. my parents immigrated from germany to canada a few years before i was born, so while i grew up rather bi-culturally, most of my early christmas memories revolve around the german traditions – including being able to open up gifts one day earlier than my friends (yay!) because for us the official holiday was the 24th. and the carols we sang were german as well. it wasn’t until i got to grade 1 that i learned ‘the friendly beasts’ and while i haven’t heard it recently, it is still remains among my favourite songs of the season. thanks for sharing.
It’s lovely how traditions bend and flow from region to region, and Germany has provided many of our traditions ~ including the Christmas tree, O Tannenbaum. 😀
A few friends opened family gifts on Christmas Eve. They also received a stocking filled with presents from Santa on December 25th . . . and then headed out to visit extended family.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Clar
Thanks, Clar! Hope your holidays are Merry and Bright! 😀
