Music Monday ~ Steel Drums & Reggae November 28, 2011

On Saturday, we listened to steel drums at the beach.
Steel drums make me smile, whisking me through time and space to St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands) for Spring Break my senior year in college.
Each afternoon, a steel drum band played in the Windward Passage’s courtyard in Charlotte Amalie.
As I traversed the distance from pool to tiki bar, I listened to the friendly percussive persuasion of the steel drums . . .
Come join the party, mon.
They steel call my name.
Kokomo beckons us to sit on the hot sand with a cool drink under a swaying palm . . . to soak up the rhythm of a steel drum band:
Saturday night, we went back to the beach to listen to Jahfari, a reggae band from Tampa that played lots of jammin’ reggae tunes.
But no one does Jammin like Marley does Jammin:
Don’t worry . . . be happy now.

Ugh, it dropped below 50 here. That’s just wrong. Glad you had a great weekend.
Thanks, Greg! The weather here has been in the high 70’s / low 80’s, but today is a bit cooler . . . and rainy.
Love your taste in music! We need to have another FB music/drink party!
Ooh . . . I’ll bring the margaritas! 😀
When I was in middle school I was a drummer (for about a week).
I have always really admired people with musical talent!
🙂
I play the piano, guitar, and sing . . . for my own enjoyment. 😀
Nicely reminisced, terrific graphics to balance it out!
Thanks. I’m sure I liked steel drums before St. Thomas . . . but I’ve loved them ever since because of all the great memories that come flooding back. Ya, mon! 😎
Just read your bio . . . what a great journey so far! As I’m sure it’ll continue to be, as you live your bliss. Hats off to ya!!
Thanks! Moving to Florida has been a wonderful change for us. But I expect we still have miles to go before we “sleep.”
I am tapping my feet and listening while typing this comment, it’s really upbeat music! 🙂 I love free concerts, haven’t been to one in a few years as we don’t really have them in the town where I live now.
Glad you can toe tap while typing. 😉
We love taking advantage of all the free concerts around us ~ at art shows, outdoor festivals, local bars and restaurants, the farmer’s market, etc. It’s a bonanza of music!
What a great energy boost…I thought I was tired when I got home, but the Beach Boys singing Kokomo provided a perfect boost…thanks!
Awesome. I often use the Cocktail soundtrack with Kokomo on it to jumpstart my energy levels!
sounds like a marvelous beat-filled time you had.
Great day. Perfect weather.
steel drums always make me feel like I am on vacation…thanks for the quick trip to the islands.
That’s exactly how I feel when I hear steel drums. My favorite Christmas CD is Christmas classics . . . on steel drums.
oh wow… what memories. just close the eyes and sway with the music and enjoy… 🙂
Ya mon! 😎
Arrrrrrrrrrrrr The Beach Boys…………… memories………
I loved the album Endless Summer . . . it resonated with my desire to live in a place with perpetual summer. 😎
Oh, yeah, Bob Marley and reggae – love it! Thanks for this post, Nancy!
Marley shared some jammin tunes wit us, mon. 😎
Thanks for this Nancy. My son’s working in Jamaica at the moment. I haven’t been to see him. Yet. But this made me feel a bit closer…
Oh, Jamaica, mon! I hope you get to visit him there. (Pack your flip flops). 😉
Love listening to steel drums. We had a group of steel drum players that did a concert at our school. I could have listened to them all day. I never realised the diverse sounds they could make. I will have to find my CD from that day. Always a good way to improve the mood.
Steel drums definitely enhance my mood ~ maybe the sound resonates with us on a “primal” level. 😎
O-o-o-h, loved that!
Thank you for sharing your beach 😉
Glad you enjoyed, Tok!
The Beach Boys! Yeah! At last, something I can relate to 🙂
The Beach Boys got me through many a cold winter “In My Room . . . In My Room.” 😎
I love Kokomo!
Whenever they sing . . . in the Florida Keys . . . I smile. 😎
Jammin’ was always one of my Marley favs… brings back good memories of London days and those steel drums parties. 😉
Music memories give us a “blast from the past.” Time travel . . . with no need to pack or go through customs.
