11/11/11 ~ A Dated Palindrome November 11, 2011

It’s 11/11/11 . . . let’s have some fun
With this unique numeric palindrome

We’ll create pyramids of gorgeous symmetry
Allowing “11” to demonstrate digital mastery

Like Yin and Yang, “11” produces certain harmony
Joining all other numbers in a cascade of unity

11 = 1 x 9 + 2
111 = 12 x 9 + 3
1111 = 123 x 9 + 4
11111 = 1234 x 9 + 5
111111 = 12345 x 9 + 6
1111111 = 123456 x 9 + 7
11111111 = 1234567 x 9 + 8
111111111 = 12345678 x 9 + 9
1111111111 = 123456789 x 9 +10

“11” has more mystique than a basket of widgets
It can create a palindrome of seventeen digits!

11 x 11 = 121
111 x 111 = 12321
1111 x 1111 = 1234321
11111 x 11111 = 123454321
111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
1111111 x 1111111 = 1234567654321
11111111 x 11111111 = 123456787654321
111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321

But what would “11/11/11” be without the digit one . . .
An undone palindrome?
Or a palindrome undone?

11/11/11 ~ Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day around the globe.

A date to remember . . . 11 11 11 . . . we are ONE!

United we stand.
Divided we fall.

ONE planet.  ONE people.  ONE future.

Peace.

Aah . . . that’s better!

Well said! And thanks for the link 🙂

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

Thanks, Vix. Here’s hoping we learn to live together in unity and harmony in the not too distant future.

2. SidevieW - November 11, 2011

The interesting stuff we learned to do when we created a numbering system with a consistent base. 😉

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

I love these visual depictions of Unity, Harmony, Certainty, and Symmetry. 😀

Very beautiful and slightly sinister – Mathematics is the Square Root of all Evil 😉 (quote from ‘Cracked’ magazine).

My Son’s school had a ‘Help for Heroes’ day today. I liked the way the school pitched it – come as any hero you want from a Soldier to a Nurse, to Superman. My son was able to attend with a beret from the Household Cavalry Motorised Regiment along with one of their t-shirts to show his support. But the key point is that all heroes of all denominations and levels of realism were welcome – Like you say… ONE planet. ONE people. ONE future. Good Post 🙂

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

Very cool way to have kids focus on our heroes. Peace.

4. BrainRants - November 11, 2011

Neat numbers trick. I’d forgotten those. Thank you for the link.

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

You’re welcome . . . and thanks!

~ May we all be ONE mind as we intuitively “get this” ~

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

ONE mind would be terrific . . . maybe “the left hand” would finally see what “the right hand” is doing.

Crowing Crone Joss - November 11, 2011

oh I like that, a lot. Thanks for link mention too.

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

You’re welcome, Joss.

6. Judith - November 11, 2011

I love the maths – made me think outside the square. Thanks. And thanks for the pingback too!

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

Thanks, Judith . . . and you’re welcome. These pyramids of symmetry delight me.

7. Maggie - November 11, 2011

Very nice. Numbers can be magical in that way. 🙂

nrhatch - November 11, 2011

I agree . . . it’s lovely seeing the symmetry.

Gratitude is good.

12. Team Oyeniyi - November 12, 2011

You realise you just did my head in. I thought you were a lawyer? They are usually useless with numbers – what happened to you! 😆

nrhatch - November 12, 2011

Math always came easily to me . . . but I didn’t figure out these formulas. I borrowed them. 😉

13. lifeintheboomerlane - November 12, 2011

My brain is fried. But I’m glad there are people like you doing this, so people like me don’t have to.

nrhatch - November 12, 2011

You’re excused from mathematical maneuvering . . . just keep snuggling and smuggling those babies cross borders. 😉

14. Tilly Bud - November 14, 2011

I love this post!

nrhatch - November 14, 2011

Cascading symmetry . . . aah! 😀
