Rocky & Randy Raccoon September 28, 2011

When our niece Emily visited, she loved playing with our informal collection of stuffed animals ~ teddy bears, monkeys, zebras, and raccoons.
Her favorites, Rocky and Randy Raccoon, generally had their arms wrapped around each other in a perpetual hug, clasped shut with Velcro fasteners.
Over time, the Velcro gave way and Rocky and Randy could no longer hug one another. Instead of a tight embrace, their long arms flapped about comically.
Unperturbed by this turn of events, three-year-old Emily grinned at Randy’s flapping arms and announced, “Look . . . Randy is a loose woman!”
We roared.
Flap . . . Flap . . . Flap . . . they called her the Flapper.

Those moments make you yearn for a “record” button in the brain that can download to a laptop. Gems.
I agree! Emily’s mom used to send us letters filled with her four kids “dialogue” with each other and with her. Reading through their carefully recorded thoughts and observations always made us smile . . . and feel part of the action. 😀
Hilarious! The things kids say crack me up!
I wish I had done a better job of recording their wit and witticisms when they were young ~ a few of their comments stayed with me. This is one of them. 😀
She sounds like a hoot!!
Such wit at such an early age!! She’s gonna be a live one!!
*#*
Emily is a master debater . . . now attending the University of Chicago.
OK, so I only realized that she’s freshman in college (after reading your other post)
I trust she still has that wit – and sass no doubt!!
*#*
Different nieces . . . but they are both college freshman. One in Chicago and one in Florida.
children always say what
they feel..unlike us adults who manage not to say ,,just in case
could n’t you tie a pretty ribbon around their paws so that they would still be together.
.
Rocky and Randy are long gone . . . as are the rest of our stuffed animals. As we moved from place to place, we’ve jettisoned tons of stuff.
We travel best when we travel light. 😀
I laughed out loud!
We did too! Comments by wee ones often remind me of the layers in Shrek . . . dialogue with nuances that entertain adults on one level and children at another level entirely.
Oh she’s going to hear that story for the rest of her life!
I have to check and see if she remembers Rocky and Randy ~ I remember Gaylord the Dog . . . and I played with him when I was no more than two! 😀
A very cute, funny story! Thank you for sharing.
We have lots of photos of the kids as youngsters, but not many recorded stories . . . so, I’m trying to capture a few “Kodak moments” in words.
Hahaha…
reminds me of an old sign I saw once (or a newly made sign meant to look old) that said, “Beware of Pickpockets and Loose Racoons!”
(or… something along those lines, anyway)!
🙂
I think I’ve seen that sign somewhere. Ooh . . . I need to Google it! 😀
Hahahaha! This is the exact reason I have a whole notebook filled with funny things my niece says 🙂
I wish I’d kept better track of my nieces and nephews comments when they were young ~ both their intentional witticisms and the unintended “play on words.”
Tori ~ Not sure what you’ve got on your home page, but I’ve tried to visit twice. Both times, my computer froze in its tracks.
I tried. 😀
Aah wish we could remember all those faux pas!!!
I’m trying to remember a few more of these little gems, but my memory is NOT what it once was. 😉
A perpetual hug can become cloying, apparently even for stuffed animals. 😉 And Rocky Raccoon sure does bring back memories – another of McCartney’s “silly love songs” (one could say), albeit with a twist. Nevertheless, a longtime fave of mine in the ‘just for fun’ category.
Hugs can becoming suffocating . . . we need room to breathe!
I’d forgotten about Paul’s little ballad. 😀
I always thought Racoons were so cute. Then when I got to the USA I was so sad to discover they are rather grumpy
The raccoons that visited our bird feeders in MD would come and knock on the sliding glass doors if the feeders were empty!
They are NOT shy. 😀
Hysterical…wonder where she heard that one?
I’ve always assumed that she created it on the spot by putting “loose” and “woman” together without seeing the phrase’s other meaning . . . but maybe she had been listening at door. 😀

I love that: kids say the best things. 😀
I’m trying to think of one anecdote for each of our 10 nieces and nephews ~ my memory banks haven’t thrown open the doors to those distant years . . . yet. 😉
Who knew that holding on tight kept you from being a loose woman?! Boy did I do life backwards! 🙂
You made me laugh. 😆
LOL. Oh my gosh that’s hysterical. I love these little tidbits from kids.
I am working to recall a few more . . . slow going to mine the memory banks. 😉
A classic!
I wouldn’t want to return to those days (and have to live my life over again from that point) but I’d love to go back in time and visit my nieces and nephews as “tiny tots” for a few hours. 😀
ROTFLOL! 😆 Kids have the best lines… and materials for us to write on. I love it. 🙂
I’m still drawing a blank on some of them, but I thought about one for Sarah . . . “It’s All Relative.”
