Tickling Our Palettes September 22, 2011

Island Galleries
Firm brush strokes form turquoise seas
Under cloudless skies

Plated hors d’oeuvres make
the rounds as wine bottles, drained
dry, accumulate

Wine, cheese, fruit and art
Sweet offerings from the gods
Tickle our palettes

Bubbles light as air
Rising higher and higher
Popping as they go

That’s the life, eh?

nrhatch - September 22, 2011

Not too shabby! 😎

2. Thorny Rose - September 22, 2011

I’m on a diet. Bubbly wine, cheese, fruit and art sound heavenly right about now.

nrhatch - September 22, 2011

Indulge in wine, fruit and art . . . go easy on the cheese. 😀

Plenty! {{clink}}

I like your haiku – great idea, having palette & palate play together; they must be kissin’ cousins, one feels, at the very least. And the clever play on a wellknown idiom (title) pulls it all together perfectly. 🙂

nrhatch - September 22, 2011

Thanks, Ruth. I wonder if palette and palate are kissing cousins from the same root? They may be.

I love using Haiku and/or Senyru to structure poems in a loose unstructured way . . . distilling thoughts to a 17-syllable essence.

This sounds really nice, Nancy…

We have several galleries on the island. Once a month, during the “season,” they hold receptions on the same evening.

Art afficionados stroll from one to the next, sipping wine, and nibbling hors d’oeurves. Delightful.

7. Pocket Perspectives - September 22, 2011

Ohhhhhhh….can I join you all????? I would love to share some art, wine, cheese…and bubbles rising as the air…

nrhatch - September 22, 2011

C’mon down, Kathy! The more, the merrier. 😀

8. adeeyoyo - September 23, 2011

Wonderful, Nancy, count me in!

nrhatch - September 23, 2011

Come with us on the next Gallery Walk ~ meet the artists, soak up some sustenance, and savor the wine.

Sounds fantastic!
(Once I got past ‘hors d’oeuvres’ that is… I still trip on those words like a monkey on… well… on… something a monkey would slip on)!
Come-on, SIG… use your context clues (seriously – it’s getting embarrassing already)!

nrhatch - September 23, 2011

No worries, mon! 😎

Hors d’oeuvres is a word
With way too many letters
For the sound it makes

Picnics on the beach. . .you have an enviable life, unless you’re writing is fiction.

nrhatch - September 23, 2011

Nope. Not fiction . . . but it did take a while to realize my dreams.

Now that we’re here, my feet are firmly planted in the sand. 😎
