A recent WP Prompt suggested writing A Top Ten List of Favorite Songs. Here are 10 Favorites that I’ve enjoyed over the years:
1. Smooth ~ Rob Thomas and Santana share the Smooth flowing beat of a song that’s definitely good enough.
2. Say Hey (I Love You) ~ Awesome song (shades of Santana and Marley) designed to get everyone in hearing range rockin in the dance hall movin’ wit you.
3. I know what I know ~ I know what I know ~ I sing what I said ~ We come and we go ~ That’s the thing that I keep in the back of my head ~ Who am I to blow against the wind?
4. Dancing in the Moonlight ~ Pick a night with a full moon, grab a friend, some liberal libations, and head outside to do a bit of Dancing in the Moonlight with King Harvest:
5. If You Want to Sing Out ~ If you want to sing out, sing out. If you want to be free, be free. There’s a million ways to be . . . you know that there are. ~ Cat Stevens:
6. Dream On ~ Dream until your dreams come true. Aerosmith

I had never heard of Rhoderic Land or King Kong Tonight, but here I am at 7am listening to it over and over. . . LOL Love the list and loved King Kong! 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it. I felt the same way when I heard if for the first time. There is something about it that just begs for a “replay.”
Good choices. I’ve always liked Perry Como’s rendition of “Catch a Falling star…” since early childhood. I thought it would be really cool to catch a star and put it in my pocket but then my mother would beat the crap out of me with the huge wooden salad spoon for burning a hole in my pants.

It amazes me – always – how varied the lists can be. When you consider that many of the songs were super sellers (millions sold), it’s hard to believe that at least one song would not be on most people’s list, but so far, I haven’t seen one (haven’t read too many of the lists yet, though!).
Actually, while one or two of the artists on my list might be the same as yours, none of the songs would (or will, if I get the chance to enumerate mine) be. I like all your songs, but they wouldn’t show up on my list, and I am not sure if the list I wrote today would be the same as a list I would put down tomorrow. Music is so subjective and mood-related, that what comes to mind would vary with the day or moment!
i will think about my own list, but if I’m going to stick to my pledge to myself, I will put this out of my mind, and keep working on my other projects. . .so far, so good. It’s almost too much fun, and if I didn’t love blogging so much, and miss my peeps in the blogosphere, I might never come back! But I wil – so don’t get your hopes up! 😆

I like a bit of Marley now and then . . . no woman, no cry. I also like listening to steel drums playing while I’m sipping a pina colada at Trader Vic’s. 😎
M Top-10 alltime … wow, that covers a lot of time, LOL.
Currently, I really like Paul Simon’s new one called “Re-write”
… and one guy I think has a big future is Amos Lee with “Windows are Rolled Down”
Right now Adele is my favorite female singer with “Rolling in the Deep”
I’m with you there, Justin. As I told Paula, I didn’t even attempt to come up with a Top Ten list of songs ~ creating the list would take forever and would be subject to change based on the moment at hand.
Love Adele’s voice ~ never heard her before. Very smooth!
Love “Smooth,” so sexy. And got a real kick out of the “new guy,” Rhoderic Land. He looks so old school.
A couple of my favorites would be “At Last” performed by Etta James and “Don’t You Know” sung by Della Reese. Also, Enya’s “Marble Halls.” Guess I’m a sucker for love songs….and anything featuring a saxophone.

When I’m in the right mood, I love Etta James, especially “At Last.” Very S~M~O~O~T~H. We have most of Enya’s CD’s and there isn’t a bad song in the bunch ~ Marble Halls is beautiful.
I love listening to a sax riff is the middle of a song . . . one reason why I love Al Stewart’s Year of the Cat (and so many of Springstein’s songs).

Good songs…summer breeze is in my head now, maybe that’s what I’m wishing for today.
That’s a song I recognize in one or two notes . . . and it always makes me smile. In the winter, it makes me long for summer and in the summer it feels like a pat on the back ~ everything’s going to be alright.

Compiling a Top Ten List would be virtually impossible. That’s why I didn’t even try . . . I just picked 10 songs that always make me smile. 😀
Pretty eclectic list there. I love it.
Makes me want to do a Favorite FOOD list ~ it would be eclectic too. Consuming the same thing day after day is far too limiting.

I didn’t plan to do this prompt since (1) I rarely follow the WP prompts and (2) choosing my Top Ten favorite songs would be impossible.
But sharing 10 “random” favorites was easy and fun and gave me a chance to listen to them. 😀
Enya is always an excellent choice.
We have most of her CD’s and love them all ~ she’s a talented singer songwriter. She lives in a castle . . . with cats. 😎

There is no way that I could actually create a Top Ten list of songs. I’m not sure I could even created a Top Ten list of albums.

That Carlos Santana track was a great return to the charts for him – love it!
Dancing in the Moonlight – There’s some history behind that one. Only get to hear the Toploader version over here normally! I sometimes wonder if it gave Bruce Springsteen a few ideas for his Dancing in the Dark.
Summer Breeze – A great song, but I have the Isley Brothers cover of it. That made more of a splash in the UK.
That Rhoderic Land track is fun isn’t it 😉
When I looked at your list, I realized that while the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and other mega-bands made it across the pond during the British Invasion, many played to audiences only on one side of that great divide.

I’m not familiar with most of the songs you listed, but Smooth is one of my favorites. I just love Rob Thomas’ voice!

I couldn’t pick my 10 absolute favorites either. That’s why this is not a Top Ten list . . . it’s just a random selection of 10 songs I always enjoy.
Maybe I’ll do 10 more down the road.

IPOD -a great device for having music without lugging around a ton of CDs I have had mine for almost a year and I now wonder what I did without it
Favorite songs are like old friends ~ causing us to travel back in time and space to the way we were.

With unfamiliar songs, I click “play” for 20-30 seconds to see if the song grabs me ~ that’s how I fell in love with #2 and #10 . . . they got me! 😎

Some are old and some are new . . . but it may also be a difference in where we live and which artists are featured. When you have a chance, click through a couple of the song. #2 always gets me up on my feet dancing (moonlight optional).
In the early 1990’s I attended a Lincoln Center revival of Cole Porter’s 1936 musical “Anything Goes” starring Leslie Uggams. During the performance she sang the song, “I Get a Kick Out of You”, which contains a refrience to the use of an illegal substance.
“Some get a kick from cocaine!
I’m sure that if I took even one sniff
It would bore me terrif-icly too,
But I get a kick out of you.”
When she sang that verse, there was a very uncomfortable silence throughout the entire audience. That song was originally sung in 1936, by Ethel Merman. I wonder what the reaction was then!
I wonder why they were uncomfortable . . . because they got a kick from cocaine, or because they didnt? 😆
Many New Yorkers are overly tolerant people. I think we just weren’t sure how to react.
