Remember the t-shirt and bumper stickers proclaiming Shit Happens?
I saw one that I like better . . . Shift Happens.
The “what is” . . . IS.
How we relate to the issue IS the issue. We do not see things as they are . . . we see things as we are.
When we relinquish the desire to control others (what they do and how they choose to view the world), we regain our inner equilibrium.
Aah . . . that’s better!

Hiya Nancy, missed you a lot 🙂
She’s back! Sounds like you had a wonderful time at the Cape and with Tandy! 😀
Aah . . . that’s better. _/!\_
Very true
When we stop expending energy arguing with others about who they SHOULD be . . . we have more energy to devote to becoming who we WANT to be.
Aah . . . that’s better. _/!\_
Hello Mrs..you do say the most sensible things….
I am far more sensible now than I have ever been before.
Aah . . . that’s better. _/!\_
Ah yes, I like this one better, too.
Sometimes shift happens so gradually that we don’t notice the imperceptible change from who we once were to who we are now . . . and then we look back . . . and see that all the boulders have become pebbles.
Aah . . . that’s better. _/!\_
I love shifts, Nancy, especially when I don’t have to grind gears to make one!
One of my favorite shifts occurred after a tumor diagnosis, and another after a basement flood ~ definitely some grinding gears to contend with . . . but the shift in perspective was worth it.
Aah . . . that’s better. _/!\_
Shift sure does happen, says the guy that just drove 2,800 miles in a five-speed.
Bwahaha! You made me laugh. 😀
‘we see things as we are’ – I like that.
One reason that I adore aphorisms is because they sum up in few words some of the great lessons of life.
CoWAbunger, Dudette! 😀
I too like short phrases that say a lot – but those short phrases are nevertheless wide open to hermeneutics.. Then again long phrases are too – everything is- so I guess, as you say, “Shift happens!” A LOT of it!
I like that new tag line – but then I like the other one as well. Are you considering a change, or just adding another? How about a combo?:
Aah . . . no rules – that’s better! It’s just right! 😉
Both tag lines are there ~ in some posts. Only one in others. I like to mix it up a bit.
If I didn’t, people would think that I do have “rules” and that I am just keeping them all to myself. Then, they might think that I was being selfish about not sharing them. 😉
Plus, I hate to be pigeon-holed and predictable. By mixing it up, I keep from pinning myself down.
Aah . . . that’s better!
Well this certainly fits my dinner table conversation tonight. To each his own.
I expect I would have enjoyed that conversation, Linda . . . especially if you shared a piece of that scrumptious looking Chocolate Truffle Cake with me. 😉
When people don’t act how we think they should act, and we allow it to destroy OUR inner peace, we are hurting ourselves. Far better to allow them to be who they want to be while focusing our energy on becoming the best that we can be.
It also says that things change. Things shift so nothing is as solid or unfixable as it seems. That’s good to remember. Have you had a look at my new blog Happy Honkers yet? I think you’d like it.
The new blog is http://happyhonkers.wordpress.com It’s subtitled ‘helping you be happy.’
I’ll check it out. Thanks, Tahlia. 😀
So true. I like ‘shift happens’. It does, if we’re lucky 🙂
Far better than stagnating by stewing in old juices. 😉
Shift always happens… It’s a favorite line of mine too. 😉
We are shaped by our experiences as the path unfolds before us . . . one step at a time.
I think both sayings are true 🙂 Balance is needed in both situations I think 🙂
I agree, Vix. Shit happens . . . all the time. If we relate to “it” in “productive ways” . . . shift happens.
Excellent distinction between ‘shit’ and ‘shift’.
This post started out as a comment on your blog, Patricia. That comment reminded me of the “Shift happens” t-shirt I saw not long ago.
Here’s to swaying with the tides . . . and shifting our sails as needed.
There’s a book called Oh Shift! that tackles the same theme. The chapter titles are cute, too.

Thanks for the link, Maggie. I’m going to take a peek right now.
This is going straight on my fridge door for reference.
It’ll remind you to schedule a stone massage . . .
Aah . . . that IS better. 😉
Shift happens is a much better slogan than shit happens!
Definitely more positive. 😀
Shift is what happens when we no longer resist the shit that happens. 🙂
Yes, indeed. We stop struggling against what is outside our control . . . and begin to change what we can control. Ourselves.

That book sounds awesome!
