Thanks, Eliz!

Your blog, Mirth and Motivation, is a shining star in the blogosphere.

Seven Facts About Me:

1.  When I am writing, there is nothing I’d rather be doing.

2.  I try to write when I have something to say . . . not just because I want to say something.

3.  Blogging adds dimension to my life ~ developing connections with writers and readers around the globe has opened my eyes, my mind, and my heart.

4.  I am not a Buddhist, but Buddhist teachings encourage me to explore,  examine, experiment, and experience the wisdom within.

5.  I woke up this morning with a mantra ringing through my head . . . there is more work to be done.

6.  I believe our purpose is to discover our purpose and pursue it with passion.  If we are growing in happiness . . . we are getting warmer.

7.  I value freedom and autonomy, shared laughter, inner peace, and my constantly replenished sense of wonder about the world and its mysteries.

No rules.  Just write!

Passing this award on to 15 bloggers, per The Rules, would be hard.

Not gonna do it.  Wouldn’t be prudent.

We need not compare ourselves to others in order to be the BEST we can be.

I award the Versatile Blogger Award  to those bloggers who strive to share the BEST parts of themselves with the world, through humor, wisdom, compassion, inspiration, and words of encouragement.  Write on!

Don’t look at me.
YOU know whether YOU qualify.

Look deep, the answer lies within.

To accept the award . . . write a short post about ways you share the best parts of yourself with the world.

Or make up your own rules . . . like I did.

READERS:  If you share the BEST parts of yourself with the world (through humor, wisdom, compassion, inspiration, and words of encouragement), you deserve a gold star too!

SPAM: A Tad More Sophisticated? March 22, 2011

This morning, I had eight SPAM messages waiting for me on SLTW.  Two are worthy of sharing, in pertinent part:

1.  From gwhapokdl (not a typo):

* We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.

Amy (Souldipper) shared just that thought with me yesterday on Getting A Return On Your Investement:

Ben Graham’s quote makes me think of one of Buffet’s favourites:

“Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.”

On first reading, I thought Amy meant Jimmy Buffett.

I racked my brain to think of a song containing those lyrics before realizing Amy meant Jimmy’s older brother Warren.

* America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.

I agree.  It’s time for politicians to climb out of Big Oil’s back pocket.  PLANET before PROFIT.  GREEN before GREED.

2.  From gwfokslpq (not a typo):

* War is an instrument entirely inefficient toward redressing wrong; and multiplies, instead of indemnifying losses.

So true.  When we take an eye for an eye, we don’t right a wrong, we just become increasing blind and short-sighted.

* He who knows nothing is closer to the truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.

By far, my favorite of the four . . . and just the reminder I needed today.

My mind is filled with prejudices.

I pre-judge people, places and things based on my past experiences with them, instead of observing them with alert curiosity right here, right now.

Phase One:  Recognize the habit.
Phase Two:  Develop selective amnesia

An open mind learns more in an hour than a closed mind learns in a year.

No rules.  Just write!

What about you?  Any adages, aphorisms, quotes, or pithy SPAM messages which you’d like to share with us today?
