Perseverance is good . . . provided that we are headed in the right direction.
Of course, sometimes the opposition we face is the Universe’s way of saying, “Turn Around. You’re on the WRONG road.”
How do you know whether to “keep on keeping on”?
Look deep.
The answers lie within.
No rules. Just write!

When we strugggle each day to find the necessary motivation to get out of bed, chances are that we are living someone else’s life and need to re-think things a bit.

There’s always that little voice inside when I’m going the wrong way ~ but sometimes I “hear” it but don’t really “hear” until I’ve started going the wrong way. Looking within is the perfect practice!
Exactly.
When we become absolutely determined to enjoy what we do, we start using our internal compass to guide our decisions . . . and we make better choices as a result.
Perseverence is the word I use to describe my great grandmother that I never knew….and always our answers are within us.
When we are happy and content, we know we are on the right path. When we are filled with dis-ease, we probably need to check our internal road map. 🙂
Our ego plays such a large part here.
Have you seen The Man With Two Brains? The learned brain surgeon stands in front of a portrait of his first wife, asking whether he should wed the second (who is a murderous self seeking psychopath).
“Just give me any sign”, he says…
There is a great wind, and the portrait flies round and round on its nail on the wall, and from somewhere a ghostly voice moans “No! No! No!”
He stands having witnessed it, and there is an awkward pause.
“Just any sign”, he continues; “Meanwhile I might just turn you round to face the wall”.
He chooses to completely ignore the signs. I’ve done the same thing in the past 🙂

The still silent voice is often hard to hear over the screaming demands of our glorious Ego.
When we don’t listen, if the message needs to be heard . . . whispers become nudges become shoves.
I like this post, but I was probably not going to make much of a comment (you had already said it all!) until I saw Kate’s comment, and I had to laugh. I LOVE Steve Maartin, and just below the surface of most of his films there is always something to relish – even the ones he didn’t write and in which he only starred. “The Man With Two Brains,” is up there high on my list – I LOL just thinking about it. The theme of signs became even more evident in the movie he wrote/starred/produced called “L. A. Story.” Wonderfully inventive film and I see something new in it every time I watch it. The signs are indeed everywhere, but the requirement from us is not only to listen, but to heed and respond! Just hearing the voice is not enough. Never is. It’s just the first step.
I think I need to put both those movies on my NF queue.
I’ve seen L.A.Story, but it’s been ages. Never even heard of The Man with Two Brains.

I have starred “A Simple Twist of Fate” because so many people have not heard of nor seen it. This is another of the films he wrote as well as starred in, and a terrific and touching film. It is his updated version of the story of Silas Marner, and it is in its own way brilliant. If you haven’t seen it, definitely put that on your Netflix queue first. It is not the comedic film you might expect from him, nor is The Spanish Prisoner (another quirky film, a thriller) or Shopgirl (from the novella he also wrote. Very good read, BTW). So get ready for some great movie viewing! Our son Matt can recreate certain scenes from The Three Amigos for you if you want to come visit! 😀 That silly, funny, riotous movie is one of our family’s all-time favorites.

Counting on that visit. And it is also appears a trip Florida way this Spring/Summer is more and more possible. Ashley will be doing some research at Paine College in Augusta, GA (where his Dad was President). Since we will be going that far, we’ve decided we will likely just “keep going” and visit with Ashley’s father’s cousin in Orlando (she’s approaching 90), plus I have discovered that my long-lost college roommate lives south of Tampa, and also, a historic re-creation site is located near DeFuniak Springs, where some of Ashley’s ancestors settled originally when they immigrated from Scotland.
So, pick out the restaurant. We’ll take you and the BFF for a meal! 😀 I think we probably ought to film the occasion for posterity and the blogosphere, don’t you?

There are some beautiful waterfront restaurants ~ including our favorite pizza place with a patio overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. 😉
Ok, I’m looking deep, and I know the answers will come. I don’t think I need to do a U-turn but maybe veer a bit to the right!
Sometimes we need only a slight adjustment to keep moving in the direction of OUR dreams, rather than working to achieve the dreams that others would foist upon us.
