Yesterday’s post on Think Simple Now is a wonderful “primer” or introduction to the teachings of Buddha:

10 Must Read Life Lessons From The Buddha

”What are you ~ a god, an angel, a saint?”

“No,” replied The Buddha, “I am A-W-A-K-E.”

Control your thoughts . . . control your life.

Can’t argue with “control your thoughts…control your life.” It’s a start. Blessings to you…

nrhatch - January 5, 2011

Thanks, Carol.

Much of life is impacted by the thoughts we think. Hardship is inevitable . . . misery is optional.

How true! It’s all in the attitude…

So much suffering is self inflicted . . . by believing everything we think. 😉

“I am A-W-A-K-E.” – What better can there be to aspire to? I can think of nothing…

nrhatch - January 5, 2011

I agree. 🙂

Thank you for this. I feel like placing my hands together and bowing slightly to you. I guess you’ll just have to imagine it then.

The Buddha in me sees the Buddha in you.

Glad you enjoyed the link. My favorite was #10:

“It is better to travel well than to arrive.”

Life is about the journey! I’m not trying to arrive, I’m already there. I am happy, and content, and satisfied where I am today. I may experience nicer places, and finer wines, but I am traveling well.

Don’t put off your happiness into some nebulous time in the future based on some goal that you think will bring you happiness.

Travel well today, enjoy the journey.

So true!

Beautiful and inspirational.
Just what we need for the year ahead.

Now, to implement the lessons…

The more mindful we are of the value of observing and mastering our thoughts, the more often we remember to put mindfulness into practice . . .

Life is infinitely easier when we are not upset by the pebbles in our path.

Indeed. Making mountains out of mole hills, rocks out of pebbles, etc.

We can train our mind and then we will be awake.

Namaste to all:)

Great Post!

Mindfulness of the thoughts which arise unbidden allows us to put them in perspective.

Thanks, Debra.
