TGIF: Candy Land For Adults December 3, 2010

As a child, one of my  favorite games was Candy Land ~ I loved Chutes and Ladders too, but Candy Land with its lollipops, candy canes,  and gingerbread men really appealed to my sense of taste in games.

Not long ago, BFF and I enjoyed a Candy Land experience for adults.

Stop!

Get your mind out of the gutter . . .

Our Candy Land  experience involved a Candy Shoppe Tasting at the Beachhouse restaurant, sponsored by Three Olives Vodka.

In lieu of standard vodka drinks, the Candy Shoppe Tasting included:  Root Beer Float Martinis, Bubblilicious Martinis, Gummy Bear Cosmos, and Chocolate Covered Cherries.

If you want to expand your bar-tending prowess from Rye and Gingers, and Rum and Cokes, to some real “Candy is Dandy, but Liquor is Quicker” drinks, here are the Recipes for this sweet quartet to try out at your next Holiday Gathering:

Root Beer Float Martini:  1.25 oz. Root Beer Vodka; 2 oz. Root Beer; 1 oz. Vanilla Ice Cream or Half & Half.

Verdict:  Summer in a Glass!

Bubblilicious Martini:  1.25 oz. Bubble Vodka; 2 oz. Sprite; 1 oz. Strawberry Puree.

Verdict:  The only thing missing was a Bazooka Joe comic hanging off the stem of the glass!

Gummy Bear Cosmo: 1.25 oz. Mango Vodka; .75 oz. Black Raspberry liqueur; 1 oz. Cranberry Juice; splash of Sour Mix.

Verdict:  Perfect for wading through the next WEbook Poetry Vote!

Chocolate Covered Cherry:  1 oz. Cherry Vodka; 1 oz. Chocolate Vodka; .75 oz. Godiva Chocolate liqueur; splash of Cherry juice.

Verdict:  Mmm . . . with a cherry on top!

During the tasting, I talked to the Rep for Three Olives Vodka and suggested that the brand’s name seemed at variance with many of its offerings since none of the drinks we tasted would have benefited from the addition of olives.  In fact, each would have been rendered distinctly unpalatable if olives of any persuasion had popped into the mix.  He agreed.

Due to the expanding product line, the name will soon be Three Oh! Vodka.

Oh, how sweet it is!

Nice! Thanks for those… sounds tasty… it’d be a nice way to warm up the palate for Xmas! 😀

Shame on you for assuming (that word again!)my mind was in the gutter! ;-D I merely pictured the two of you huddled over a rickety old card table, the moldy game board laid out on it, the two of you with shawls on to warm you from the bitter 72 degree weather, sipping root beer float martinis, and the prize for winning was a new fresh bar of chocolate ex-lax! What else would two old folks playing Candy Land want or need for a prize? Now, you two, on to Chutes and Ladders – you both need to get some virtual exercise! (You’ll get the real thing when you have to run to the bathroom after eating all that ex-lax!)

Where the heck IS my mind?

nrhatch - December 3, 2010

That’s quite an imagination you got going there, PTC! 🙂

LOL!

They’re in a category known as Alchopops here and are all the rage amongst the youngsters, but our variety come from the Smirnoff brand.
I agree about the olives not fitting the name.

nrhatch - December 3, 2010

We have Smirnoff as well, but perhaps not in quite so many flavors.

These are NOT my normal drinks of choice, but they were FUN to sample.

Of course there are always “Jell-o Shooters,” VERY popular among the 20-something set, and available in as many flavors as there are of Jell-o!”

Vodka is such a sociable drink – it fits in with anything and anybody! 😀

I used to drink Jello shots a few years back:

Jiggly Jello Shots + Jingle Bells = Jolly Holly Daze

When you unveil your painted lounge area for friends over the holidays . . . serve some!

6. andalibmarks - December 4, 2010

That is an excellent idea!!

That reminds me, I still haven’t found my camera!
I’m getting the sneaking feeling that I left it – somewhere but I can’t exactly figure out where!!

I hope you find it. I’m anxious to see the results of your painting efforts.

hmmm I think I will start drinking this holiday! My daughter still won’t let me forget after fifteen something years that I never wanted to play her favorite game, Candy Land, with her. I was sick of it after playing it so much with my son.

nrhatch - December 4, 2010

Mix up a batch of Candy Land cocktails and invite her to play a game of Candy Land this holiday season. 🙂
