No matter how mature your relatives act everyday, when thrown together at the holidays, they are apt to regress ~ forcing others to deal with their issues.

“Experience has taught them that this behavior succeeds in getting people to focus on them and their agendas,” says Stephen R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families.

While we can’t control their actions, we can control how we  respond, relate, and react ~ how you relate to the issue IS the issue.

In How to Avoid Holiday Family Fights, authorities on etiquette and family dynamics offer strategies for handling a tableful of problem personalities:

* The Martyr
* The Passive-Aggressor

* The Whiner
* The Bully
* The Busybody

* The Gossip
* The Emotional Wreck

* The Drunk Uncle

Since you, of course, are perfect . . . just keep up the good work.

Aah . . . that’s better!

Blessing surround you, let them astound you
Feel the delight of all within sight

The day, the night, the stars, the sun
Music and laughter, the ability to run

Food on the table, water to drink
Air to breathe, the ability to think

Count your blessings, just give it a try
The number will astound you, it’s surprisingly high

A warm sunny day, the tall Autumn trees
Swirling snowflakes, a warm Spring breeze

Clothes to wear, the right frame of mind
Happy memories to share, this moment in time

Blessings surround you, let them astound you
Feel the delight of all within sight

A child’s laugh, the smile of a friend
Once you notice them, blessings come without end

So focus on this moment, enjoy all it offers
Allow its blessings to fill your coffers

Count your blessings, just give it a try
The number will astound you . . . it’s higher than high!
