220px-Congrats_bqtAlannah (Here Be Dragons)  alerted me to Nature Made’s search for a Good Mood Blogger to blog about my favorite topic . . . staying in a Good Mood.

Thanks, Alannah!

In exchange for writing 5 posts a week (250-500 words a post) for 26 weeks, the Good Mood Blogger receives:

* $5,000 a month for 6 months
* a new laptop
* some good press!

Not bad.  Not bad at all.

The contest is open to residents of the 50 states, and Phase 1 voting runs from now through November 10th.

At that point, the 20 bloggers with the most votes move into the finals AFTER submitting a video explaining why they should be the next Good Mood Blogger.

That’s the hang up for me.

If  I made it into the finals (after pestering friends to vote for me every day for 3 weeks), I don’t have the equipment, desire, or know-how necessary to direct, shoot, and submit a video starring . . . me.

Pluto-RollerskatingNot my cup of tea.

But . . . with enough Tequila . . . anything’s possible.

So, I may decide to enter.

Translation: I may still be bugging you for your support.

Whether or not I apply, I wanted to let you all know about the contest (Good Mood Gig 2).

Voting started last week, October 13th.  Four applicants already have 1000+ votes in Phase 1 (the popularity portion of the contest).

One person, currently in the top 20 (out of 400+ submissions) has at least  seven typos in her application.  Seven!  I lost count at seven; there may have been more.

But she’s got friends willing to vote for her, typos and all, and that’s what counts during Phase 1 ~ lots of friends who Twitter and Tweet.

To apply:  Good Mood Gig 2

Dammit! Why not Ireland? 😦

nrhatch - October 19, 2010

Or South Africa, England, Canada, and other exotic ports of call where my favorite bloggers live. 😦

2. Tsuchigari - October 19, 2010

Go for it! You are already tailor made for the job.

nrhatch - October 19, 2010

I read through the Good Mood Blog as written by the last winner.

Her posts mirror my own in terms of subject matter ~ laughter, meditation, life balance, keeping anger in check, good food, nature, etc.

The position itself is well suited to my time and temperment. But the popularity contest is a hurdle to get past first. 😉

Shannon Sullivan - October 19, 2010

I totally hear you Nancy … I would love to blog about being in a good mood and how to obtain it each day … but the popularity thing is where I would fall short in having the ability to motivate that many people … however, if you enter, let me know and my vote goes to you! 😉

nrhatch - October 20, 2010

Thanks, I’m still on the fence but leaning against entering.

It bothers me that they are looking for a “Good Mood Blogger” without asking for a writing sample.

Instead, what they want is a social networker who will tweet about Nature Made to promote themselves. That’s not me.

Are you kidding? I don’t think I have ever known anyone in a better mood than you! You have to go for it.

nrhatch - October 19, 2010

Thank you!

It’s taken a long time to get to this point in my life. And, who knows, maybe I can drum up enough support to get past the first hurdle.

4. Julie - October 20, 2010

Definitely go for it, and if you do, let us know so we can vote for you!

I’d do it, but first I’d have to figure out how to stay in a good mood – lol.

nrhatch - October 20, 2010

The funny thing about that . . . it’s the SAM-e Good Mood Blog to promote a “natural” cure for “the blues.”

How would someone who is ALWAYS in a good mood help those of us who struggle to stay afloat on occasion?

The reason I’m so “upbeat” now is because of all the “darker days” I’ve survived.

5. Cindy - October 20, 2010

The contest is open to residents of the 50 states…
*sulk*

nrhatch - October 20, 2010

Aah, watch that *sulking* ~ it could haunt you when Nature Made runs a similar contest in Africa. 😉

6. Agatha82 - October 20, 2010

Shame they make you video yourself, that would make me not want to do it anyway and that voting thing sounds not quite “fair” (I thought it was judged etc.)

What’s really annoying is that the website I subscribe to, that gives you these kind of “writing” jobs is based here in the UK and you think they would check whether or not UK residents can enter BEFORE listing it on their website grrrrr.

Anyway Nancy, if you did decide to enter, you know we will all vote for you 🙂

nrhatch - October 20, 2010

Thanks, Alannah. I really appreciate you bringing it to my attention. The Blog Job itself sounds fabulous ~ exactly what I LOVE to write about. “Do What You Love The Money Will Follow.”

If the 2nd round required a sample Good Mood Blog post from each of the 20 finalists(so that we were being judged on the merits), I would enter. Without that, it seems MORE like a popularity contest and LESS like a job application.

They even suggest that applicants do something like JUGGLING in the video. Moi? 🙂

7. Agatha82 - October 20, 2010

How silly, I mean it should be based on your skills as a writer, not how many people you can get to vote for you and juggling? Oh dear…I can’t even carry more than 2 cups in my hand, that’s how skilled I am in coordination lol

nrhatch - October 20, 2010

Well, in their defense, they want a spokesperson with “social networking” skills who will spread the word and be a marketer for their wares.

That said, there’s a bit too much emphasis on rounding up votes and not enough on writing ability and other attributes that would advance the ball.

8. jannatwrites - October 21, 2010

You should go for it – I’d vote for you!

The video does sound a bit challenging, but who knows, it could be fun.

nrhatch - October 21, 2010

Thanks, Janna!

I “ignored” the contest yesterday (to see whether Spirit started “tugging at my sleeve” to get me to enter). No tugs. Just the opposite, I felt peaceful and calm about my decision not to enter.

Unless that changes, I won’t be entering.

Every time Spirit gets my attention (to leave the law, to move to MD, to apply for jobs, to move to FL), I’m led in the right direction. When Spirit is quiet, as it was yesterday, I know that the opportunity is not right for me and belongs to someone else.

9. Naomi - October 21, 2010

Ah gee – tell us if you change your mind, Nancy – you’d have my vote totally! Just tell us where to click 🙂

nrhatch - October 21, 2010

Thanks, Nomes!

I may still have a change of heart, but it’s looking less likely. I’m not sure I want to become a cyber-ad for Nature Made. 🙂

10. withduckandgoose - October 21, 2010

do it! i was going to enter it, but i just…i’m not into popularity contests like that. and as you pointed out, that’s all it is.

that said, you DESERVE that spot because you are always in a good mood and you rock like that. 🙂

nrhatch - October 21, 2010

Thanks, if it was a social networking contest followed by submission of a sample “Good Mood Blog,” I would do it.

The fact that they don’t ask for a writing sample, and instead want a video with singing, dancing, or juggling gives me cause for pause.
