Eine Kleine Nachtmusik August 23, 2010

Prior to taking Music Appreciation in college, my familiarity with classical music involved walking out of the room whenever my mother played Bach, Beethovan, Mozart, Schumann, or Strauss.

After the course, I embraced several classical composers,  including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ~ a child prodigy who began composing about the age that I learned to tie my shoes.

My favorite Mozart composition:  Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.

To memorize the piece for class, I closed my eyes and saw the notes being played by each instrument as the lively serenade moved through the score.

Lost in the music, the world fell away.

With today’s technology, we can watch the notes being played with eyes wide open . . . while the world recedes from view!

Here’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, 1st movement, Allegro, performed by the Advent Chamber Orchestra, accompanied by a scrolling bar-graph score:

Happiness Resides Here & Now August 23, 2010

We see the world behind our eyes.  Our past experiences impact how we perceive this moment.  Over time, we develop biases, prejudices, and preferences.

At times, our preferred way of dealing with the world gets in the way of our ability to see this moment and all that it offers with clarity.

The more determined we are to live life fully, enjoying the moment at hand, the more connected we become to the peace, love, joy, and bliss which resides within.

Mulling over pain, hurt, and frustration rarely adds to our enjoyment of the journey.  If we want lasting happiness, we need to fully embrace what is being offered right here, right now.

We need to stay in the moment, let the past recede from view, and allow the future to unfold.
