Where’s Ego? August 18, 2010

IMGP0971My Ego (like Jacques Brel) is alive and well and living in Paris.

Meditation really works!

More and more often, my mind remains in a state of pure awareness ~ alert and curious, rather than angry, fearful, annoyed, worried, or overly judgmental.

* I HEAR birds and the laughter of children
* I FEEL the breeze and the sun’s caress
* I NOTICE blue skies framing palm fronds
* I SMELL fragrant flowers and fresh baked bread
* I TASTE bittersweet dark chocolate!

But . . . Ego lurks just below the surface.

And, as soon as it doesn’t get its way, it jumps into action, gleefully pronouncing that I am SO RIGHT to get annoyed . . . because who do they think they are . . . and remember that time when . . . and the other time . . . and don’t they understand . . .

As soon as I realize where those thoughts are taking me ~ dragging me into an “unhappy place” ~ I push Ego aside and tune into the moment at hand.

Unless I’m feeling angry, fearful, annoyed, worried, or overly judgmental . . . when all bets are off.

Give Your Stuff Away Day ~ 9/25 August 18, 2010

TOO MUCH STUFF cluttering up your living spaces?

Mark your calendars for  September 25th!

Give Your Stuff Away Day, the  brain-child of Mike Morone, a 52-year-old former teacher,  is an opportunity to recycle  stuff that has little or no value to you, but would have value to others:

It’s a national swap meet, if you will, a day to reshuffle and recycle our collective unwanted but usable goods and, as Morone puts it, “magically shift ownership in one weekend.”  Just bring items to the curb and watch them get snapped up. Then take a stroll to find some free stuff for yourself.

Coordinating HAND and FOOT August 18, 2010

I’ve heard of living HAND to mouth (barely eking out an existence).

I’ve observed people putting their FOOT in their mouth (or opening their mouth and inserting FOOT) by saying something less than circumspect.

I’ve heard about being bound HAND and FOOT.

And George Carlin once observed, “When you step on the brakes, your life is in your foot’s hands.”

But, after a cursory internet search, I found virtually  no expressions about the daily coordination required between HAND and FOOT.

That seemed odd . . . until I recalled Elaine Benes shaking her groove thing on the dance floor:

Watching her dance, it’s patently obvious that the left HAND doesn’t know (or doesn’t care) what the right FOOT is doing.

No cooperation.  No coordination.  Just a free-for-all of moving body parts.

Sort of like the Hokey Pokey:

You put your right hand in.  You put your right hand out.  You put your right hand in and you shake it all about.  We do the Hokey Pokey . . .

Hokey Pokey?

Why’d they call it the Hokey Pokey?  Looks like the Herky Jerky to me.

In FUN with WORDS, I tossed out a few doublet challenges for you from the Guinness Book of Words.

Here’s two solutions to #4:  moving from HAND to FOOT:

Did you have either of these solutions?

A different one?

A shorter one?

Please share your solution below.

More groovy transformations on the way!

The Spiritual path requires renunciation, a letting go of attachment to self-centered Ego concerns, such as the desire for approval.

Those who can, do.  Those who can’t, try to tell us why we can’t do it either.

Infinite possibilities await.

Paint your world the way YOU want it.

If we limit our choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, we disconnect ourselves from what we truly want; all that’s left is compromise. ~ Robert Fritz

Rather than allowing our thoughts, emotions, and past experiences to dictate our re-actions to new events, we can view life with alert curiosity.

Passion is power.  Follow your dreams.

Living life without passion is like trying to go hot air ballooning with an empty balloon.

Take your passion, and make it happen. ~ Flashdance

If you don’t have the life you want, start making changes . . . because it’s not going to fall in your lap.

Revel in uncertainty.

Create the life you want to live.  Unleash your imagination & let it run wild!

When we understand who we really are, we free ourselves from the illusions that hold us back.

It’s amazing the things we find to do . . . to avoid doing amazing things.

Between the wish and the thing, life lies waiting.

Just remember:  The less you have, the less you have to worry about.

Master your thoughts . . . master your life.

Peace is not needing to know what will happen next. ~ Hilary Smith

The clouded mind sees nothing.

Try spiritual practice and see for yourself. ~ The Buddha

The quieter the mind becomes . . . the more we understand.

In stillness lies truth.

An open mind learns more in an hour than a closed mind learns in a year.

You must empty yourself of the past, in order to receive the present. ~ Zen Parable

Chase away idle thoughts, and see the world as it is.

Nature does not ask, “what do they want me to be?”  Its glory lies in its authenticity.

Always remember that you don’t have to be what they want you to be. ~ Mohammad Ali

Success is sharing the best parts of yourself with the world.

Know thyself ~ Oracle of Apollo at Delphi, Greece (inscription)

Happiness flows from being true to yourself.

Turn the spotlight inward. ~ Gandhi

Don’t sacrifice your values to reach your goals.

To thine own self be true. ~ Shakespeare

You have as many reputations as you have acquaintances.  None is accurate.  Be who you really are.

People are unhappy because they aren’t being truthful with themselves.   Being truthful with yourself plugs you into your inner power. ~ Suze Orman

When you stop hiding who you are, you have more energy to become more fully who you want to be.

Without freedom, one’s creativity cannot bloom.

When we are enjoying the journey, we stop worrying about finding our intended audience ~ we trust that our intended audience will find us.

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony. ~ Mahatma Gandhi

To be a success in life is more than racking up dollars in your bank account . . . it’s about being the best YOU that YOU can be.

You are powerful beyond measure. ~ Marianne Williamson
