I Need A Thneed! July 14, 2010

We are often manipulated into buying things we don’t need, and didn’t even know existed, by the magic of the marketing moguls.

They’ve figured out what makes us tick ~ tock ~ and shop!

They know how to push our buttons using the magic words . . . you deserve this latest and greatest Thneed!

And we buy into their lures . . . hook, line, and sinker.

Of course, all that excess consumption takes a toll on the planet, and its inhabitants.

Before you run out to buy your next Thneed, take a look at this moving video, which combines the wise words of Cat Stevens (Where Do The Children Play?) with the profound vision of Dr. Seuss in The Lorax:

Quote:  They took all the trees, put ’em in a tree museum. ~ Joni Mitchell

Erm … I plead guilty as charged 😉

I hereby sentence you to . . . plant a few trees!

We often have trees planted on behalf of people who already have all the Thneeds they Need instead of giving them something else to dust.

For example, the NWF has an assortment of ornaments for sale . . . each one purchased results in the planting of a tree on behalf of the recipient of the gift.

Talk about coincidence! This song, along with two other Cat Stevens and a couple of Donavan songs are in my queue for posting.

The Cat Stevens tune and lyrics fit very well with the video.

Thanks for posting this.

Cool! Can’t wait.

I love Cat Stevens and have for the past 4 decades. His words seem wiser now than they did back then . . . did they change? Or did I???

George Carlin states the same thing in his inimitable fashion…and this is right near the top of my list as one of the best routines ever, by any comic! Enjoy!

Oh! Nrhatch. Really enjoyed this. Thank you for posting. I especially liked the my stuff, your shit line. That broke me up. Really an incredible find. (What about those gurus travelling from village to village without any ‘stuff’, except is what we talk about also our ‘stuff’? grin grin.

I believe we travel best when we travel light . . . but I am unlikely to travel from village to village without any “stuff” at all. : )
