Americans are fat and getting fatter . . .
In Xtreme Eating 2010, the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) shares the reason why:
We eat too much!
Doh!
From Five Guys Fries to Towering Chocolate Truffle Cake, we’re eating sugar, fat, and white flour in record quantities, while setting new records on our bathroom scales.
Dig in!

Do you mean to say there are actually people out there who do not know there is a direct correlation to our size with what and how much we eat? Welcome to the world, baby! Oh, and have some fries with that! 😀
Actually, the article was an eye opener for me ~ I would have guessed the calorie and fat content as being MUCH lower in each of the examples.
I’m used to cooking at home, without adding lots of extra fat . . . these dishes really load up the calories and fat grams with butter, oil and chees.
Eeeeu, thumbs down for junk food and thumbs up for more fresh produce.
I agree!
None of the food described made me want to indulge in the artery clogging, calorie laden, saturated fat WAIST land . . . except for the chocolate truffle cake.
It sounded good enough to eat . . . with about 6 other people!
I’m glad that I love fruits and veggies so I don’t turn into a beach ball. : )
Hey! I’ve lost weight. Over 20 lbs so far. Although the big sale on Ben & Jerry’s at Safeway the other day didn’t help. $1.99 if you bought 4. Sigh. And I have been so good too, no B & J for over a month.
But what do I do now about the side effect of losing weight? Saggy baggies – :-[ At my age (I am 39.9999999… :-] – things just don’t bounce back like they used to.
Good for you! Yay!
Probably the best thing to do is drink lots of water and walk to hydrate, improve circulation, and tighten things up.
Nancy,
you’re the featured blogger under vegetarianism right now! woohoo. Yes, we are fat. Yes, we eat too much. I need to go read Xtreme Eating.
Cool! Thanks for the heads up.
It’s an amusing article about a serious problem. : )
