Summertime Spirit June 13, 2010

Sprinklers pulsing
Under sultry
Mid-day sunbeams
Endlessly, hypnotically
Round and round
Teasing droplets tickle tanned skin
Inviting sidelined observers to
Merge with staccato spray, and
Enter the ever present flow of life

Donald-Duck-DivingSummertime . . . and the living is steamy
Popsicle drips create polka dot sidewalks
Ice cream adorns smiling chins
Ready, set . . . dive
Into sun-splashed days
The buoyant mist beckons

Aah . . . that’s better!

Yesterday, I planned to participate in the “Write Your A** Off” Challenge.

Life is what happens while you’re busy making plans.

I woke up with a sore shoulder caused by too much “mousing around” on Friday.

Instead of gluing myself to the computer screen like I do most days . . . I stepped away from the keyboard and put some distance between my shoulder and my mouse.

Definitely the wisest move.

Instead of slogging through the day and trying to type through the pain, I switched gears:

We drove down the island and admired the turquoise seas and white sands, as yet unmarred by tar.

We visited the Sarasota Farmer’s Market.  Despite the heat, we enjoyed the steel drum beat filling the air.

Several vendors lured us over with frees samples ~ gluten free pizza, organic toffee, and raspberry streudal.  Yum!

We purchased some fresh veggies and peaches and headed home for lunch.

We logged time in the pool, late afternoon, chatting about the coming week and watching a thunderstorm’s approach .  .  . first raindrops splattering and sizzling on the hot pavement as we walked back to the villa.

Instead of using e-mail or Facebook to communicate, I picked up the phone and heard Cindy Barth (a friend from high school) laugh for the first time in 35 years!

Cindy’s cruising from Canaveral next Saturday.  We invited her to head south a day early so she (and her 13-year-old twins) can spend the night with us on Thursday before heading out to sea.  She accepted the invite!  Fun!

To mix things up a bit more, my sister and her family also plan to arrive on Thursday to spend a few days with us.

Our villa is apt to spill into the streets with five adults, four kids, a six month old Golden Lab, and a territorial cat named Tigger all trying to maneuver within its small confines . . .

And some of us will have to sleep sitting up . . . but it’s all good.

Life improves with laughter.  And I’ve missed Cindy’s laugh.

This morning, my shoulder feels great.

It’s back in the swing of things, so I’m back in the saddle again ~ having been freshly reminded to:

Listen to what is being offered.  Go with the flow.  Embrace uncertainty. Let life unfold. Laugh when you can.
