Before And After June 4, 2010

Wild and free
Soaring high
As they’re meant to be
Then BP came
And soiled their nest
Look in their eyes
Let’s give oil a rest
Our conjoined future is at stake
After all . . . what good is a house if you haven’t got a decent planet to put it on. ~ Thoreau

What Does BP Stand For? June 4, 2010

* Broken Promises?
* Blatant Propaganda?
* Bloated Profits?
* Blackened Pelicans?
The real question, of course, is what do WE stand for?
If you’re looking for an answer to that question, in light of the disaster wrought in the Gulf of Mexico by BP, Big Oil, and power-hungry politicians, check out Andy Willner’s Op-Ed:

“Rebate . . . Rebate” June 4, 2010

One of my favorite features on Uphill Writing is Rik’s “Word of the Day” challenge.
Today’s post, Rebate: Word of the Day, garnered a laugh from me and then inspired a silly poem:
Try, try, try as he might
Freddy couldn’t get it right
“Rebate . . . Rebate” remained his refrain each night
The rest of the chorus
From dusk to first light
Cried out, “Rib-It . . . Rib-It” with disdain and delight
LISTEN . . .
“Rib-it . . . Rib-it”
The frog chorus reprise
“Rebate . . . Rebate”
A lone frog replies
No rules. Just write!
Clearing Clutter June 4, 2010

To effectively clear clutter, change your perspective.
Instead of asking:
“Would I maybe possibly someday want to have this object, article, or knick knack in my life?”
Try asking:
“If this object, article, or knick knack had not appeared in my life . . . would I have missed it?”
Stuff Stuff and more Stuff
Possessions overwhelm us
Enough is enough
Create space for what matters.
Simplify your life.

Feasting at the Smorgasbord June 4, 2010

Life is a smorgasbord of ideas to taste and thoughts to sample.
That’s one reason I decided against Academia when leaving the practice of law.
Who wants to spend their entire working life rooting around a single tree for truffles . . . when there is a whole world to explore?
Not me!
It’s also the reason that I love being a part of the cyber space generation, or as Garrison Keillor would say: “a hummingbird in an endless meadow of flowers.”
Variety is the Spice of Life! Dig in!
