Frog-CircusEgo wants to be right.  Spirit wants to be happy.

Ego want to be admired.  Spirit wants peace of mind.

Ego wants to be in control.  Spirit is willing to let go and go with the flow.

Ego’s desire for control causes negative thoughts to spiral out of control, destroying our happiness and peace of mind in its wake.

Spirit’s willingness to accept the “what is” allows us to remain calm and serene in the midst of conflict and strife.

The choice is ours.

Mesmerizing, is it not?

OK, couldn’t resist.

But your statement brings to mind a question. And I am very serious about this.

Do we have thoughts?

Or, do thoughts have us?

Excellent question, Rik.

Thoughts often arise of their own accord . . . like the Wall St. ticker tape, or clouds rolling across the sky. If we are not consciously aware of the thoughts arising in our mind, those thoughts exert insidious control over us . . .

We get caught up in “our” thoughts . . . believing them to be true.

When we meditate, we become consciously aware of the thoughts arising in our minds ~ we learn how to slow them down, and let them drift away of their own accord.

We begin to realize, “I am not my thoughts. My thoughts are not me.”

The mind . . . a wonderful servant, and a terrible master.
