A Walk in the Waves March 13, 2010

I’m back at my desk, after a long stroll on the beach spent splashing through the waves and watching crumbling castles wash out to sea with the incoming tide.
Walking on the beach is my favorite form of exercise these days ~ meditation in motion, with a touch of aerobics thrown in for good measure.
In my younger days, beach visits generally meant plopping my (much smaller) ass on the sand with a good book to bask in the sun all day. My only goal ~ to tan as quickly as possible in the allotted time.
Instead of sunscreen with UVB protection in the double digits, I used baby oil and fried myself to a crisp ~ never suspecting that the sun’s gentle kiss would degenerate into the “fine lines and wrinkles” facing me in the mirror today.
These days, considerably older and somewhat wiser, I slather on the sunscreen and don protective sunglasses before heading to the beach to wander and wonder.
After a relaxing walk in the waves, I often use Haiku to record the sights, sounds, smells, and wildlife that accompanied me on my walk:
Wandering the beach,
counting polished grains of sand,
calms me to the core
Delight filled dolphins
Dive beneath the currents and
Leap high o’er the waves
Colors swirl and mix
in tropical tones and hues
as the pier appears
No rules. Just write!
What about you? Where do you find it easiest to silence your mind and watch in full awareness as one moment unfolds gently into the next?
