Possessions overwhelm us
Enough is enough

Ego stands its ground
Insisting “I’m right!” with might
Blinders block its view

Hamlet’s claim to fame
The precipice of madness
To live or let die

Like the first and second ones!!

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

Thanks, Shree. Play along with us ~ entries won’t be judged until 12/9 so you have plenty of time to get your MAD on!

2. suzicate - December 3, 2013

The first is my favorite!

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

Excess consumption is madness ~ the Black Friday shoving and jousting matches at Walmart are a symptom of the disease.

3. sarsm - December 3, 2013

I like the first one best too and it’s particularly apt at the moment.

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

Yes! ‘Tis the season to be spending . . . to buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t like. ;)

Crowded malls, crowded malls, crowded night and day
Oh what fun it is to LAUGH as Spirit Lights The Way

4. viviankirkfield - December 3, 2013

Love your haiku gems, Nancy! Haiku is fun because it helps encourage writers to be concise and to the point…probably a good exercise for me.:)

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

Haiku is great for distilling things down to the essence ~ saying more with less. :D

5. Pix Under the Oaks - December 3, 2013

I like the first one!

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

Thanks, Pix! Me too.

BFF and stepped off that Merry-Go-Round and now steer clear of the malls and Walmart almost year round.

6. Grannymar - December 3, 2013

Don’t know why,
but Hiakus
Pass me by!

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

So you’re not mad about Haiku?

Grannymar - December 4, 2013

I am certainly mad, but not about Haiku!

nrhatch - December 4, 2013

Mad as a Hatter
pouring tea as Dormouse snores?
White Rabbit is late.

7. SidevieW - December 3, 2013

posessions overwhelm us
Your snow decorates us

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

Let it snow . . . as long as it’s cyber snow.

SidevieW - December 4, 2013

hehehe, we have snow so seldom here that we all go crazy. sometimes it doesn’t even last half an hour

nrhatch - December 4, 2013

We’ve been in Florida for 5 years and haven’t seen any of the fluffy white stuff ~ except at festivals where they bring in snow machines to amuse the toddlers.

At Busch Gardens in Tampa and at UCF in Orlando ~ they have ice rinks with fake ice for skating. And mounds of “snow” for kids to throw and for sledding.

Here I am at work
I lack time to be clever
This Haiku must suck

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

Don’t sell yourself short
Clever is as clever does
Run . . . Run, Forest, Run!

9. Three Well Beings - December 3, 2013

The season screams “Rush!”
I whisper “Just breathe slowly”
And refuse to sprint.
:-)

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

Love it! It’s great when we refuse to give in to the collective madness swirling around us. Just keep breathing!

10. librarylady - December 3, 2013

I actually like the third one. ( and Granny’s Haiku)

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

Thanks, LL. Feel to jump in and play along. Just follow the link to Col’s blog.

11. jannatwrites - December 3, 2013

The first two seem fitting for the season!

nrhatch - December 3, 2013

All I have to do is watch clips from Walmart on Black Friday to know that Holiday Madness prevails over the Spirit of the Season. Silly Rabbits!

12. Nancy Curteman - December 3, 2013

I used to teach Haiku to my sixth graders. They really enjoyed following the formula for creating.

nrhatch - December 4, 2013

I enjoy playing with Haiku. I think writing them helps us to focus on the resonance that each word brings to the mix which improves our poetry and our prose.

Cinquains too:

And also Diamantes:

13. sufilight - December 4, 2013

I like the first one the best as it describes spending during the holidays. :D I for one try not to go to malls during the Holidays unless absolutely necessary.

nrhatch - December 4, 2013

Thanks, Marie. At most, I go to the mall once a year. And even then I don’t linger. I get in and get out. But in my teens, a trip to the mall . . . bliss!

14. colonialist - December 5, 2013

Thanks for promotion! Some entries seem to have roosted here – I’ll have to check when judging!

nrhatch - December 5, 2013

Most of the haiku here were just “playing around” ~ Debra’s is the only one that seems to fit the theme.

colonialist - December 5, 2013

With a theme like this one, it is amazing what one can regard as appropriate!

nrhatch - December 5, 2013

True dat! When something doesn’t fit, and you cry out, “it’s utter madness,” you realize it fits after all. ;)
