We headed down, Myakka way
And paused to hear musicians play
Our path meandered through the glade
High above, the canopy swayed
We passed grazing cows, intent on lunch
And lazing cows, huddled in a bunch
Metallic cocks crowed in colored splendor
As car lovers drooled over hood and fender
Flowers shared brilliant blooms with buzzing bees
Shade cooled the shadows ‘neath the trees
We wandered on, keeping pace with the path
Until the promised tower appeared at last
We climbed the steps and inhaled the view
A lovely day . . . through and through
* * * * *
Now . . . can you make heads or tails of this UFO (Unidentified Fowl Object)?
Hint: Birds of a feather flock together . . .
Even fowl with far more fluff than feather
Hmm . . . if that was MY chicken, I would call it H.R. Fluff ‘n’ stuff!
Aah . . . that’s better!

How pleasant! The words of the poem meandered like the path
Thanks, Lorraine. Yesterday was our first visit to Crowley Nature Center. Lovely day to meander its trails.
and best of all there was NO SNOW!
Correct ~ but there was a “Fossil Pits” for the kids to dig in for treasures (sharks teeth, etc.). Several kids found the contents of these giant sandboxes perfect for making “sandballs.”
Ah, lovely. Thanks for the stroll through all that beauty!
Thanks, Suzi. FUN Festival . . . we started out in slacks and sneakers for “hiking” and, as it warmed up, switched to shorts and sandals for “lounging.”
I enjoyed the wander with you well wrapped in my winter woolies. Any chance of a handful of shorts and sandals weather, pretty please?
I’ll see what I can do . . . maybe review our new Island Taxi Service which docks up and down the island collecting and dropping off passengers.
Stay warm.
A very nice walk, Nancy… and a cute fluff and stuff as well at the end!
That was the fluffiest chicken I’ve ever seen. At first glance, I couldn’t decide which was head and which was tail.
A very lovely walk and it has me wanting to see some flowers of summer! Miss Fluffy Pants up there is an interesting chicken..
Miss Fluffy Pants . . . another great name for a very fluffy chicken.
What a wonderful festival! I love H.R. Fluff ‘n’ stuff!
It took several tries before I could tell her head from her tail. Easier when she was moving, because I assumed she wasn’t walking backwards.
The poem was a nice touch! It was an innovative way of describing each scene. The rhythm interlaced itself and created a vignette from one image to the next.
Thanks, Sandra. It was a FUN way for me to “capture” the day.
You are genius. Keep capturing days like this, and the world is going to burst into fireworks.
Thanks! *BOOM*
Loved the poem and how your pictures captured the words…or maybe the words captured the pictures?
Thanks, Shree. Sometime the words come first, and I find photos to fit them. In this case, I worked in the other direction.
Nice meandering poem Nancy.
Thanks, Tammy. Crowley is a lovely spot for a meander.
Looks like a lovely day! That fluffy chicken ‘cracked’ me up
Cute
Eggs~cellent pun, Janna!
Folkie but far from hokie. Thanks for the stroll.
They had butter making, chair caning, blacksmithing, sugar caning, skirts a-hooping, bean shelling, music making, plus a bunch of guys playing “war” (a Civil War reenactment).
Sumpin’ for evryone.
aw, this is so heartening, Nancy. loved it a lot.
just briefly on the internet, and it already hit the spot.
that little hen, all soft and fluffy
seems cheeky and fun, and not at all huffy
that path you took through sun and shade
a most interesting adventure – and blog post – made.
thanks for sharing
Thanks for joining in the Rhyme Thyme, Kris! That fluffy chicken was a hoot.
Oh, Blurry Hell, Nancy, I’m coming over to live there. Outside it is grey and sleeting and my wellies are damp and I long for the light I have just seen in your photographs….
Good call, Kate. This is the best place we’ve ever lived. After spending many winters in NJ, VA, SC, NC, and MD, this is the first place with SUNNY skies almost every day (and NO SNOW).
Of course, you’d have to leave all your lovely CASTLES behind.
I smiled and smiled while enjoying the charming poetic virtual tour of your day.
Yay! Glad you enjoyed it, Marie.
Lovely journey, even for us vicarious journeyers! Crowley is where? My favorite uncle’s family was from Crowley, LA. Didn’t know there was another!
I would say now that that reminds me of a story, but I won’t.
Crowley Nature Center is near Myakka State Park ~ the largest park in Florida with 37,000 acres.

Oh, heavens. It’s still raining here in Oregon, so I’m thrilled that you rescued me and took me on this outing. I can almost…not quite…but almost smell salt air. Please take us on more adventures.
Alright . . . today we’ll take a tour around the island on a water taxi. Sound good?
Totally my kind of day, Nancy! I love the meandering paths. There is something so relaxing to me about a day just as you illustrate here. I call them mini-vacations and that’s really how I recalibrate when I need to rebalance life! The chickens were just a bonus!
That’s what we thought . . . a FUN and fluffy exclamation point to end the day.
I love those wooden walkways and bridges! And that chicken has the best type of feathers to avoid a fox’s teeth.
You’ve got a point, Milka . . . fluffy feathers outfox the fox!
