We headed down, Myakka way

IMGP3462b

And paused to hear musicians play

IMGP3459b

Our path meandered through the glade

IMGP3482b

High above, the canopy swayed

IMGP3464b

We passed grazing cows, intent on lunch

IMGP3472b

And lazing cows, huddled in a bunch

IMGP3475c

Metallic cocks crowed in colored splendor

IMGP3480c

As car lovers drooled over hood and fender

IMGP3477b

Flowers shared brilliant blooms with buzzing bees

IMGP3484b

Shade cooled the shadows ‘neath the trees

IMGP3465b

We wandered on, keeping pace with the path

IMGP3468b

Until the promised tower appeared at last

IMGP3469b

We climbed the steps and inhaled the view

IMGP3471b

A lovely day . . . through and through

IMGP3463b

* * * * *

Now . . . can you make heads or tails of this UFO (Unidentified Fowl Object)?

IMGP3486b

Hint:  Birds of a feather flock together . . .

IMGP3487b

Even fowl with far more fluff than feather

IMGP3488b

Hmm . . . if that was MY chicken, I would call it H.R. Fluff ‘n’ stuff!

Aah . . . that’s better!

How pleasant! The words of the poem meandered like the path :-)

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

Thanks, Lorraine. Yesterday was our first visit to Crowley Nature Center. Lovely day to meander its trails.

2. katecrimmins - February 10, 2013

and best of all there was NO SNOW!

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

Correct ~ but there was a “Fossil Pits” for the kids to dig in for treasures (sharks teeth, etc.). Several kids found the contents of these giant sandboxes perfect for making “sandballs.”

3. suzicate - February 10, 2013

Ah, lovely. Thanks for the stroll through all that beauty!

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

Thanks, Suzi. FUN Festival . . . we started out in slacks and sneakers for “hiking” and, as it warmed up, switched to shorts and sandals for “lounging.”

4. Grannymar - February 10, 2013

I enjoyed the wander with you well wrapped in my winter woolies. Any chance of a handful of shorts and sandals weather, pretty please?

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

I’ll see what I can do . . . maybe review our new Island Taxi Service which docks up and down the island collecting and dropping off passengers.

Stay warm.

5. Tom (Aquatom1968) - February 10, 2013

A very nice walk, Nancy… and a cute fluff and stuff as well at the end!

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

That was the fluffiest chicken I’ve ever seen. At first glance, I couldn’t decide which was head and which was tail.

6. sweetdaysundertheoaks - February 10, 2013

A very lovely walk and it has me wanting to see some flowers of summer! Miss Fluffy Pants up there is an interesting chicken.. :)

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

Miss Fluffy Pants . . . another great name for a very fluffy chicken. :D

7. diannegray - February 10, 2013

What a wonderful festival! I love H.R. Fluff ‘n’ stuff! :D

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

It took several tries before I could tell her head from her tail. Easier when she was moving, because I assumed she wasn’t walking backwards. ;)

8. Sandra Harriette - February 10, 2013

The poem was a nice touch! It was an innovative way of describing each scene. The rhythm interlaced itself and created a vignette from one image to the next.

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

Thanks, Sandra. It was a FUN way for me to “capture” the day.

Sandra Harriette - February 10, 2013

You are genius. Keep capturing days like this, and the world is going to burst into fireworks.

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

Thanks! *BOOM* :D

9. shreejacob - February 10, 2013

Loved the poem and how your pictures captured the words…or maybe the words captured the pictures? :)

nrhatch - February 10, 2013

Thanks, Shree. Sometime the words come first, and I find photos to fit them. In this case, I worked in the other direction.

10. Tammy - February 10, 2013

Nice meandering poem Nancy.

nrhatch - February 11, 2013

Thanks, Tammy. Crowley is a lovely spot for a meander.

11. jannatwrites - February 10, 2013

Looks like a lovely day! That fluffy chicken ‘cracked’ me up :) Cute :)

nrhatch - February 11, 2013

Eggs~cellent pun, Janna!

12. Hudson Howl - February 10, 2013

Folkie but far from hokie. Thanks for the stroll.

nrhatch - February 11, 2013

They had butter making, chair caning, blacksmithing, sugar caning, skirts a-hooping, bean shelling, music making, plus a bunch of guys playing “war” (a Civil War reenactment).

Sumpin’ for evryone.

13. pix & kardz - February 10, 2013

aw, this is so heartening, Nancy. loved it a lot.
just briefly on the internet, and it already hit the spot.
that little hen, all soft and fluffy
seems cheeky and fun, and not at all huffy
that path you took through sun and shade
a most interesting adventure – and blog post – made.

thanks for sharing :)

nrhatch - February 11, 2013

Thanks for joining in the Rhyme Thyme, Kris! That fluffy chicken was a hoot. :D

14. kateshrewsday - February 11, 2013

Oh, Blurry Hell, Nancy, I’m coming over to live there. Outside it is grey and sleeting and my wellies are damp and I long for the light I have just seen in your photographs….

nrhatch - February 11, 2013

Good call, Kate. This is the best place we’ve ever lived. After spending many winters in NJ, VA, SC, NC, and MD, this is the first place with SUNNY skies almost every day (and NO SNOW).

Of course, you’d have to leave all your lovely CASTLES behind.

15. sufilight - February 11, 2013

I smiled and smiled while enjoying the charming poetic virtual tour of your day. :) :) :)

nrhatch - February 11, 2013

Yay! Glad you enjoyed it, Marie. :D

16. Paula Tohline Calhoun - February 11, 2013

Lovely journey, even for us vicarious journeyers! Crowley is where? My favorite uncle’s family was from Crowley, LA. Didn’t know there was another!

I would say now that that reminds me of a story, but I won’t.

nrhatch - February 11, 2013

Crowley Nature Center is near Myakka State Park ~ the largest park in Florida with 37,000 acres.

17. Barb - February 13, 2013

Oh, heavens. It’s still raining here in Oregon, so I’m thrilled that you rescued me and took me on this outing. I can almost…not quite…but almost smell salt air. Please take us on more adventures.

nrhatch - February 13, 2013

Alright . . . today we’ll take a tour around the island on a water taxi. Sound good?

18. Three Well Beings - February 13, 2013

Totally my kind of day, Nancy! I love the meandering paths. There is something so relaxing to me about a day just as you illustrate here. I call them mini-vacations and that’s really how I recalibrate when I need to rebalance life! The chickens were just a bonus! :-)

nrhatch - February 13, 2013

That’s what we thought . . . a FUN and fluffy exclamation point to end the day. :D

19. Perfecting Motherhood - February 14, 2013

I love those wooden walkways and bridges! And that chicken has the best type of feathers to avoid a fox’s teeth.

nrhatch - February 14, 2013

You’ve got a point, Milka . . . fluffy feathers outfox the fox!
