Last summer, in a small sliver of time between trips to New Jersey to assist my parents, BFF and I enjoyed a carefree day with our youngest nephew, Thomas.

IMGP2772b

We played a few rounds of miniature golf before lunch at the Rainforest Cafe with his parents . . . and a few wild animals.

IMGP2757b

From there, we wandered, whirled, and twirled around Downtown Disney before “heading round” to the Mr. Potato Head store.

IMGP2771b

Yes!  There’s an entire store devoted to Mr. Potato Head ~ Barbie may have a better figure, but Mr. Potato Head has just as many fans and accessories!

IMGP2776b

We stopped to ask Buzz Lightyear for directions but he was no help.  He kept saying, “Up, up and away!”  Impossible since we weren’t wearing our jetpacks.

IMGP2777b

Last stop, the Lego Store where we bumped into Buzz Lightyear again ~ this time with his pal Woody (from Toy Story).

IMGP2786b

Outside, we saw three of the Seven Dwarfs headed to work.  Snow White was no where in sight.

IMGP2778b

Thomas posed for a few pictures with more than a few pups.

IMGP2788b

We also met my favorite Rock Lobster . . . oops, Loch Monster . . . NESSIE!

IMGP2779b

Aah . . . that’s better!

Speaking of necks (weren’t we?) . . . the vote is OPEN and it’s neck and neck!

The Loch Ness monster looks really amiable, doesn’t he?
Those Lego figures are quite amazing.

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

And it’s a great marketing tool . . . because kids want to create these massive Lego statues at home! :D

colonialist - February 3, 2013

That would cost mommy and daddy a bit …

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

You know that Little Lego Fauntleroy is out there, somewhere, building a barn for his pony out of Lego . . . all the while forgetting to thank mummy and daddy for their largesse. :D

2. Don - February 3, 2013

What a beautiful world.

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

Not exactly “wide open spaces” and “natural places” . . . but we had a blast sharing Thomas’s enthusiasm. :D

3. nolagirlatheart - February 3, 2013

What a great escape and you had some very colorful companions.,

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

It was a bright spot in a summer filled with dark days.

the magic of make believe!

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

The Mr. Potato Head store brought back so many memories . . . even though we grew up with a much more basic wardrobe for our favorite tuber. ;)

I love LEGO — totally amazing what people can build with it. Though, I remember struggling to build even a decent looking house and getting angry as a hornet whenever I stepped barefoot on an errant piece hiding in the pile of the carpet.

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

I remember getting annoyed when two pieces got jammed together and wouldn’t part ways. :D

6. Grannymar - February 3, 2013

You brought back wonderful memories of a holiday in Denmark with a full day in Legoland with our then ten year old daughter.

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

Yay! Thomas also had a chance to visit the new Legoland in FL this past summer, but we missed that outing. He loved it.

7. ryoko861 - February 3, 2013

Unbelievable what those people do with LEGO! I bet they have a couple of good stories about stepping on them!

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

I love them all . . . but am particularly fond of NESSIE sticking her neck out like that.

8. sweetdaysundertheoaks - February 3, 2013

Looked like a great day and you cracked me up with your comment about jetpacks. I can still remember the smell of Play-Doh, that and Silly Putty.. :) Those Lego thingies truly are amazing.

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

Oh, yes! I adored the smell of Play-Doh . . . and Silly Putty. Great memories. Thanks, Pix.

I kid for a day, good for you……that’s a lot of plastic.

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

It sure is! Wouldn’t it be great if Lego started making Lego bricks out of recycled plastic . . . solving two problems with one brick.

10. Barbara Backer-Gray - February 3, 2013

Sounds like a great day.

nrhatch - February 3, 2013

We had lots of fun . . . I could use a few more days like that!

11. adeeyoyo - February 4, 2013

Lovely to spend time and see the world through the eyes of a child!

nrhatch - February 4, 2013

Hanging out with kids provides an infusion of enthusiasm. :D

12. Team Oyeniyi - February 4, 2013

Great happy photos! Love them!

nrhatch - February 4, 2013

Thanks, Robyn. It’s a fun place to wander about.

13. Tori Nelson - February 4, 2013

Looks like so much fun! My Thomas would’ve had a total field day!

nrhatch - February 4, 2013

Just think of all the FUN adventures the three of you will enjoy together in the coming years! :D

14. diannegray - February 4, 2013

What a fabulous time you must have had! These are wonderful, happy pics :D

nrhatch - February 4, 2013

Yes! A HAPPY day in the midst of difficult times. FUN to revisit in pics too. :D

15. jannatwrites - February 5, 2013

This looks like a fun time! I’ve always wondered how they can create such intricate things with Legos. (We went to Legoland a few years ago and admired replicas of many famous buildings and places in the world…quite amazing.) Love how your nephew poses for the pictures – my kids put on a goofy face to make the pictures ridiculous!

nrhatch - February 5, 2013

Yes! I’m also impressed with people who actually draw on Etch-A-Sketch. The most I ever managed was a bunch of squiggling disjointed lines. :D

Thomas has a wonderful smile, which he willingly shares.

16. Tokeloshe - February 5, 2013

It looks as if you all had great fun.

nrhatch - February 5, 2013

Yes. A great and wonderful day from first to last.

17. Perfecting Motherhood - February 7, 2013

We visited the Lego store in Downtown Disney in Anaheim a couple of years ago and although there were some cool Lego sculptures, I didn’t see anything that looked like your photos. I guess we’re due for another visit…

nrhatch - February 7, 2013

The Lego sculptures encircled the building . . . and encouraged eager young faces to cry out, “Mom! Dad! Let’s go to Legoland! Please?!” ;)

Perfecting Motherhood - February 7, 2013

Oh, I know Legoland, it’s 40 minutes away from our house. We haven’t been there yet (except for the Sealife aquarium next to it). I think we’ll have to make our way there one day…

nrhatch - February 7, 2013

I expect your boys would love it. :D
