Last summer, in a small sliver of time between trips to New Jersey to assist my parents, BFF and I enjoyed a carefree day with our youngest nephew, Thomas.
We played a few rounds of miniature golf before lunch at the Rainforest Cafe with his parents . . . and a few wild animals.
From there, we wandered, whirled, and twirled around Downtown Disney before “heading round” to the Mr. Potato Head store.
Yes! There’s an entire store devoted to Mr. Potato Head ~ Barbie may have a better figure, but Mr. Potato Head has just as many fans and accessories!
We stopped to ask Buzz Lightyear for directions but he was no help. He kept saying, “Up, up and away!” Impossible since we weren’t wearing our jetpacks.
Last stop, the Lego Store where we bumped into Buzz Lightyear again ~ this time with his pal Woody (from Toy Story).
Outside, we saw three of the Seven Dwarfs headed to work. Snow White was no where in sight.
Thomas posed for a few pictures with more than a few pups.
We also met my favorite Rock Lobster . . . oops, Loch Monster . . . NESSIE!
Aah . . . that’s better!
Speaking of necks (weren’t we?) . . . the vote is OPEN and it’s neck and neck!

The Loch Ness monster looks really amiable, doesn’t he?
Those Lego figures are quite amazing.
And it’s a great marketing tool . . . because kids want to create these massive Lego statues at home!
That would cost mommy and daddy a bit …
You know that Little Lego Fauntleroy is out there, somewhere, building a barn for his pony out of Lego . . . all the while forgetting to thank mummy and daddy for their largesse.
What a beautiful world.
Not exactly “wide open spaces” and “natural places” . . . but we had a blast sharing Thomas’s enthusiasm.
What a great escape and you had some very colorful companions.,
It was a bright spot in a summer filled with dark days.
the magic of make believe!
The Mr. Potato Head store brought back so many memories . . . even though we grew up with a much more basic wardrobe for our favorite tuber.
I love LEGO — totally amazing what people can build with it. Though, I remember struggling to build even a decent looking house and getting angry as a hornet whenever I stepped barefoot on an errant piece hiding in the pile of the carpet.
I remember getting annoyed when two pieces got jammed together and wouldn’t part ways.
You brought back wonderful memories of a holiday in Denmark with a full day in Legoland with our then ten year old daughter.
Yay! Thomas also had a chance to visit the new Legoland in FL this past summer, but we missed that outing. He loved it.
Unbelievable what those people do with LEGO! I bet they have a couple of good stories about stepping on them!
I love them all . . . but am particularly fond of NESSIE sticking her neck out like that.
Looked like a great day and you cracked me up with your comment about jetpacks. I can still remember the smell of Play-Doh, that and Silly Putty..
Those Lego thingies truly are amazing.
Oh, yes! I adored the smell of Play-Doh . . . and Silly Putty. Great memories. Thanks, Pix.
I kid for a day, good for you……that’s a lot of plastic.
It sure is! Wouldn’t it be great if Lego started making Lego bricks out of recycled plastic . . . solving two problems with one brick.
Sounds like a great day.
We had lots of fun . . . I could use a few more days like that!
Lovely to spend time and see the world through the eyes of a child!
Hanging out with kids provides an infusion of enthusiasm.
Great happy photos! Love them!
Thanks, Robyn. It’s a fun place to wander about.
Looks like so much fun! My Thomas would’ve had a total field day!
Just think of all the FUN adventures the three of you will enjoy together in the coming years!
What a fabulous time you must have had! These are wonderful, happy pics
Yes! A HAPPY day in the midst of difficult times. FUN to revisit in pics too.
This looks like a fun time! I’ve always wondered how they can create such intricate things with Legos. (We went to Legoland a few years ago and admired replicas of many famous buildings and places in the world…quite amazing.) Love how your nephew poses for the pictures – my kids put on a goofy face to make the pictures ridiculous!
Yes! I’m also impressed with people who actually draw on Etch-A-Sketch. The most I ever managed was a bunch of squiggling disjointed lines.
Thomas has a wonderful smile, which he willingly shares.
It looks as if you all had great fun.
Yes. A great and wonderful day from first to last.
We visited the Lego store in Downtown Disney in Anaheim a couple of years ago and although there were some cool Lego sculptures, I didn’t see anything that looked like your photos. I guess we’re due for another visit…
The Lego sculptures encircled the building . . . and encouraged eager young faces to cry out, “Mom! Dad! Let’s go to Legoland! Please?!”
Oh, I know Legoland, it’s 40 minutes away from our house. We haven’t been there yet (except for the Sealife aquarium next to it). I think we’ll have to make our way there one day…
I expect your boys would love it.
