Dashing through the mall with a wobbling shopping cart
Cindy stopped to pause . . . beneath a bright red heart
Heart ~ Heart ~ Heart
It radiated love . . . and good will toward all
Even those stuck shopping in the crowded mall
Oh . . .
Crowded malls, crowded malls, crowded night and day
Oh what fun it is to PAUSE as Spirit Lights The Way
Hey!
Crowded malls, crowded malls, crowded night and day
Oh what fun it is to PAUSE as Spirit Lights The Way
Cindy looked around . . . as three carolers drew near
Ready to sing out and spread bright Christmas cheer
Tra ~ La ~ La
As shoppers gathered round, they began to sing
About a drummer boy and the gift he gave a king
Oh . . .
Crowded malls, crowded malls, crowded night and day
Oh what fun it is to SING as Spirit Lights The Way
Hey!
Crowded malls, crowded malls, crowded night and day
Oh what fun it is to SING as Spirit Lights The Way
The bells around the mall . . . chimed with festive air
Making spirits bright and lifting worldly cares
Ha ~ Ha ~ Ha
Love is a force for good . . . at any time or place
The present of the present fills our hearts with grace
Oh . . .
Crowded malls, crowded malls, crowded night and day
Oh what fun it is to LAUGH as Spirit Lights The Way
Hey!
Crowded malls, crowded malls, crowded night and day
Oh what fun it is to LAUGH as Spirit Lights The Way
Aah . . . that’s better!
Written for: Susanna Leonard Hill’s Pretty Much World Famous 2nd Annual Holiday Contest ~ entries must be submitted by 12/19/12.

I think you missed your calling! You should do YouTube videos! LOL!!
Great idea, Irene. I can be a Pop Star!
Thank you for that. I needed the giggle this morning.
You’re not alone, Lisa. It’s easy to be consumed by the sorrows and tragedies that surround us . . . but that just adds to the darkness.
Instead, we need to create MORE LIGHT!
I actually just tried singing that..
Fun!
As I wrote it . . . I sang it . . . entertaining BFF in the process.
You have some amazing skills. I am impressed
Thanks, aawwa. If you get a chance, click on the link and read Susanna’s “sample story” ~ same tune with incredible lyrics. Poor Santa.
Oh, gosh! With illustrations and everything! Great job, Nancy. I love the sentiment, that it’s important to remember what the season is really all about even when your at the mall! Thanks for a great entry!
Thanks, Susanna. In retrospect (i.e, AFTER reading your “sample story”), I would have approached the challenge differently ~ instead of repeating the chorus, I would have added more verses.
No matter. I had FUN. And I look forward to reading the other submissions.
Wow, Nancy! From pausing in the mall to singing in the mall, thanks for beautifully lighting the way. Oh what a fun read!
Thanks, Pamela. I had FUN writing this . . . especially the chorus.
I’m looking forward to seeing all the submissions.
I wish you had put in a video of your singing this one to accompany the post, Nancy.
I can shoot video with my camera . . . but the gremlins in my computer no longer allow me to upload footage to share on line.
If you have time . . . Susanna is accepting entries until the 19th. And she’s giving away FIVE cash awards and critiques.
Bravo, Nancy
This was such a breath of fresh air!
Thanks, Kate. Here’s to taking time to Pause, Sing, and Laugh as we move through this festive season of the year.
Amenamenamenamen
Positivity. In the face even of evil: it’s the only way forward.
There is only one way to conquer the darkness of sorrows and tragedies that befall us . . . we must create MORE LIGHT.
Here’s to Light, Love, and Laughter.
So much fun and I loved all the pics to go with it!
Thanks, Joanna. LOVE is the antidote to fear and a balm to our pain. We are happy because we laugh.
I have a feeling I shall be humming that tune all evening now, Nancy. Brilliant!
Thanks, Tom. We were strolling through the shops on Bridge Street today . . . as I was thinking about “Dashing Through The Mall with a wobbly shopping cart.”
This felt like a shaft of bright light amidst the darkness that we are all feeling at the moment.
Thanks for your positivity, Nancy.
Thanks, Barb. Even in the midst of life’s tragedies, it pays to find things to smile about . . . and spread that JOY to others.
Happy people don’t shoot children.
People in pain do.
Wonderful!
Thanks! The best way to dispel the darkness of life’s tragedies is by creating more Light, Love, and Laughter.
That was beautiful! I really dislike the crowded malls at this time of year and avoid them when possible. I loved the line “Spirit Lights the Way.”
Thanks, Rebecca . . . if the song takes off, it will be FREE advertising for my blog.
Oh this was such fun to sing along to. Well done! A nice giggle for the day…
Thanks! We attended a luminary walk through the woods with Christmas Carols filling the air this evening. When the violinist played “Jingle Bells,” I heard these words instead.
Wonderful, Nancy! I sang this song right along with you! Perfect!
Thanks, Debra! I had fun revising the lyrics to this classic.
Love your entry Nancy. Love the emphasis on spirit lighting the way!
Thanks so much, Patricia. I’ve been busy today . . . but I’m looking forward to reading the other entries tomorrow and Monday.
Cats in hats… you simply can’t lose.
Horrors! I could never rewrite a Dr. Seuss classic!
But YOU could! Check out the contest rules . . . you have until Wednesday to enter.
I was actually talking about the picture of the cat wearing a Santa hat! Unless you were using dry humor and it went over my head.
Dr. Seuss is untouchable!
Doh! It’s late . . . I’m tired. You said “cats in hats” and I pictured “The Cat in the Hat” celebrating Christmas.
Glad that neither one of us is inclined to get tangled up in mangled up knots while trying to rework his words.
Haha, I was humming your song! Read the comments and I am smiling that you entertained your BFF while writing this.
Thanks, Marie. BFF found the singing much more enjoyable than the muttering which sometimes occurs when I’m trying to iron the wrinkles out a sentence that refuses to cooperate.
I can’t seem to get away from the crowded malls. Love that you incorporated your blog title in your song/story. So much more fun reading about crowded malls than being at one!
Thanks, Romelle. It can be FUN to be in the midst of a crowd of joyous people . . .harried shoppers seldom rise to that level.
So clever! With love and grace, Spirit does Light the Way!
Thanks, Cathy. Susanna’s contests are TONS of FUN.
This was fun to read! I avoid the mall, but have had the misfortune of being there in the week preceding Christmas in the past. Fa la la la la….
Thanks, Janna. The mall serves a purpose, I suppose . . . someplace for Santa to hang his hat and set up his lap. Ho~Ho~Ho!
Light and love — good things to concentrate on. Thanks!
Thanks, Beth.
Wonderful! How fun! And uplifting, too. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Cheryl. I have yet to make the rounds of the other entries. I am “behind my time” once again. Hopefully, tomorrow. Tuesday at the latest.
Ugh, the mall. I’ve managed to avoid it so far this season. This is a great reminder of what Christmas is really about.
Thanks, Carrie . . . it’s great to take time to pause, sing, and laugh. It helps to keep our wits about us and our sense of humor intact.
Love the whole ‘Spirit Lights the Way’ idea, Nancy! Great entry…and I loved your photos. Your participation in Susanna’s contests is a blessing to all of us.
Thanks, Vivian. Other than your submssion, and Susanna’s “sample” (both awesome), I haven’t yet made the rounds to read other posts. Hope to find the time to do so tomorrow.
Clever play on J Bells. Takes real talent to work out these little ditties.
Thanks, NC! If you click on the link to the contest . . . you be treated to some real talent. Susanna’s sample is marvelous.
Fantastic, Nancy. I’m still singing it! What a beautiful post to lighten the mood
Thanks, Dianne. Taking the time to Pause, Sing, and Laugh always pays dividends . . . especially when the pace becomes hectic.
So true, Nancy! I’ve despised malls my entire life and am so glad they aren’t a part of the fabric of society here in Italy. Here’s to putting away the plastic and singing a few carols!
Thanks, Renee! I loved going to the mall as a kid . . . as an adult, not so much.
Sweet images, Nancy! Good luck with the contest!
Thanks, Linda. I’ve only read a couple of submissions thus far . . . I hope to read the rest today and tomorrow. The ones I’ve read are FANTASTIC.
I usually can’t even work up the courage to get into the parking lot!
Best of luck, Nancy!!!
I understand completely, SIG. BFF and I have been to “the mall” a grand total of 2x in 2012. Both times we went with a specific mission in mind and were in and out of the parking lot in less than an hour.
We’re as speedy at shopping as St. Nick is in the delivery.
I try to remain at a very safe distance…
there is a ‘Panda Express’ in the food-court of the mall nearest me, though… so that’s a pretty serious temptation…
The food court IS a temptation. I almost always prefer eating to shopping.
Love your entry, Nancy. We can all heed the Spirit and Light more this season and all through the year. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Clar! This has been a tough year for many . . . ending on a tragic note for even more. Here’s to Light, Love, and Laughter.
Yes! the three “L’s”. perfect.
Hahaha! Brilliant.
Thanks, Barbara. I had FUN playing around for Susanna’s contest. She’s accepting submissions for two more days if you have the time and the inclination to join the seasonal frivolity.
I usually find the mall to be quite scary! I could use some Spirit and Light.
It IS scary.
Especially when you bump into one of Santa’s elves in the dark restroom corridors.
Beautiful sentiments. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of Christmas, it’s nice sometimes to pause and remember the reason for the season.
This year, we have made a concerted effort to seek out Seasonal Venues that don’t include SHOPPING at the mall ~ all three towns on AMI have Holidy Open Houses with music, decorations, and refreshments to enjoy. No purchase necessary. We also enjoyed a Luminary Walk through the woods at De Soto National Memorial with 5 different music acts. Lovely.
And for LAUGHTER . . . we watch National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation!
I like the way you mixed a serious topic with fun. I just know “Oh crowded malls, crowded malls . . .” will be ringing through my head tonight when I’m trying to sleep. Nice job!
I hope you don’t end up with insomnia . . . or, worse, indigestion. Thanks Alayne.
So very, very true. Since having kids, I avoid the mall at Christmas at all costs Online shopping is my best friend
A nice contrast between the commercial and the spiritual. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Maria. Life balance is key . . . at any time of year.
I love the contrast you’ve painted in your descriptions. Crowded malls sound so chaotic. We definitely need to remember to pause, sing and laugh! What a fun rendition.
Thanks, Anna. I appreciate you stopping by . . . especially at this hectic time of year. Ho! Ho! Ho!
That’s the spirit
I’ve pressed “pause” this afternoon . . . to read The Book of Invention. What FUN.
Love it. I avoid the malls … well year-round, if I can help it. Thanks for sharing your story.
Thanks, Stacy. Me too. We venture into the mall on only the rarest of occaions . . . like when we get a coupon for FREE stuff, no purchase necessary.
Loved your post and the entire post! You got it right!
Merry Christmas!
Thanks, Penny. Hope your Christmas is full of good cheer.
