Uncluttered desktops
And slim tidy files
Surfaces gleaming
Reflecting bright smiles
Walks on wide beaches
‘Neath blue-tinted skies
These are the things that
Make me feel alive
He who laughs, lasts
Say C~H~E~E~S~E!

Written for Trifextra Challenge ~ My Favorite Things (33 words, no more, no less).
Aah . . . that’s better!

Lovely poem!
Beyond silly . . . but when I saw the challenge this morning, my desk over-floweth with papers and files bulging at the seams.
So the first thing I thought of was the anti-thesis of clutter.
Oh, gracious. Must start de-cluttering ready for the day you make it to our shores, friend. Not sure I can furnish blue skies, though. Today is grimly grey and Dickensian.
Your poem makes me feel better, though.
Oh, your clutter won’t erase my smile . . . unless, of course, you invite me to sit on a pile of defrosted peas.
It’s the mad piles in my office that suck the life out of me ~ I want to “get on top of things” . . . but I keep falling short.
Too far from the beach, gray skies, can’t see the wood on the table covered with “stuff”; mind full of sunny blue skies walking on the beach. Good day.
Here’s to inner and outer clarity . . . with nothing to obscure the view.
Cool poem. Nice sentiments. “Uncluttered desk, clean surfaces”, not gonna happen for me
Yup, it’s a work in progress . . . always.
Any progress I make is quickly erased.
My In-Box ain’t never gonna be empty.
And still I dream.
…and life is but a dream…
love the picture – smiling here in cold Alaska. And, please don’t peek in “my” room . . . piles on piles. You are in good company.
That’s one more reason that watching The Queen of Versailles made me appreciate MY life . . . their 27,000 foot home was piled higher and deeper with paper and all manner of clutter.
My space is much more tidy than that.
Your poem makes me want to become a beachcomber. If I tidied up my space I wouldn’t be able to find a thing!
Being a beachcomber appeals to me too ~ we did get to wander at waves’ edge on Thanksgiving.
A part of me wants to dump all my bulging files into the recycling bin wearing a huge “mad hatterish” grin.
Fear of future regret holds me back.
I love the beach too! Anywhere. I’m not neat so I can’t relate there. Your poem is fun. Love the pic!
Thanks, Gina! That smiling totem cracks me up!
I was going to tackle my cluttered desktop today, but I found a Hershey kiss, so I got distracted. And then I got dirt on my finger and almost fainted, so that set me back. Then I got inspired to work on a draft, so now I’m way behind. And there is a good football game on, so I can’t clean and cheer at the same time, because each time I jump up and down, the pile on the desk avalanches. Maybe tomorrow
I’m having the same problem . . . chocolate is so distracting.
In reference to the photo, it’s so tempting to ask “Which one is you?”
But I’m not like that, so I won’t.
Your confusion is understandable . . . we’re practically twins!
These are the things that make me feel alive. I love that and that big smile! Great photo – and poem.
Thanks, Stephanie. My sense of humor is a possession I would not live well without.
Nice adaptation.
Thanks, Kymm. Perfect Trifextra theme for Thanks Giving weekend.
Oh no…slim files? I’m still concentrating on my thighs! I’m doing Aquafit for smiles and a slender soul!
Nice photo, Nance!
Thanks, Amy. Slim thighs . . . that’s another ballpark entirely. And I’m not likely to hit a homerun there either.
Glad you’re enjoying Aquafit. It’s been so cool this fall, that I’ve missed 5 water aerobics classes. They are outdoors and not much fun when the thermometer is stuck on COOL.
Great Poem! Love it!
Thanks, Deana. Wading into a clutter-free zone was my first thought upon seeing the challenge this morning.
There is enough room on my desk for Teddy to take a nap while I computerize. Tidy enough for me. But you made me think about files…I haven’t filed away the stuff from last years taxes. Maybe that should be put on my to-do list.
Tigger loves to get on my desk too . . . but he’s scared of the mouse.
I wish I could keep a handle on clutter, but alas…At least the chores make *me* feel alive when I’m aching from them haha
I hear ya . . . nothing like aching backs to scream, “I’m Alive!”
Love it! And you can even sing along to it! Great job
Thanks, Megan. I enjoyed adding a new stanza . . . and it motivated me to clear off my desktop.
Love the song!
Not enough words to do the whole reprise:
“When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when . . . ”
With only 6 words left for the reprise:
“When the bee stings . . . just be”
I have only been home two days and my desk looks like a disaster area.
I am working on ignoring it.
Mex isn’t able to do it .
I can feel the vibes coming from that man.
My “office” is in the corner of our bedroom so I try to keep things sorted. But life comes at us F~A~S~T . . . “incoming” often prevails.
nice response to the prompt – had to sing it in my head of course
Of course. Me too. It helps that it’s such a well-known tune.
Nice! And by reading the comments looks like most of us do not have
“Uncluttered desktops
And slim tidy files”
At the moment, my desk looks “not bad.” But my files are bulging.
“Uncluttered desktops
And tidy slim files”
WHAT?????? I can’t even find a pare of clean undies and you want me to have a tidy desk???
I just finsihed draft 2 today and sent it to 3 new beta readers and the professionals named in the book.
There is NOTHING tidy in my house today!!!
pair, even. pared undies would be odd
Pared undies would be odd.
That’s exciting. Maybe Mr. O and the munchkins can tidy up while you focus on finishing the book.
I love the tidy slim files. Such a clinical, cold description for such a singsong piece. I loved that contrast. (I also love tidy slim files.)
It’s rather amazing that in a digital world there is still so much paper floating about. Thanks for a fun challenge.
Very good! I love a clean uncluttered kitchen countertop..
With nice wide work surfaces. Aah . . .
Good thing you can’t see my desk right now. It is hardly the picture of space and serenity! (Between the stacks of stuff and cats lounging on it, I can barely fit my laptop on it at the moment.
Just make sure you keep a space open for the cats!
Oh, never mind, who am I kidding? Cats would rather lie ON TOP of our work than lounge on a clean desktop anyday.
Uncluttered desktops
And slim tidy files
Surfaces gleaming
Reflecting bright smiles
These lines remind me of my Daddy who I am not going to see for a while now
But amazing job to have gone from slim tidy files to wide beaches
I creave wide open spaces (inside and out). Hope you see your dad sooner than expected.
I tell myself that a cluttered desktop is a sign of a writer at work.
I’m probably wrong.
I have a book called The Writer’s Desk, with photographs by Jill Krementz of writer’s at their “desks.” Some of their offices are tidy. Most are not. Some stand while writing, others sit. Some write long hand, others type or use computers.
It’s all good.
“Slim tidy files” – these make me happy too, but sadly they don’t last for long.
Life comes at us FAST! In no time at all, we can find ourselves drowning in a sea of paper.
Do you travel for those uncluttering jobs?
Sure. I’ll be over to unclutter your office just as soon as I’m done with mine . . . which should happen no later than 2015, 2016 tops. Unless I get distracted. Or decide to procrastinate.
Loved your poem… made me smile because it sounds a lot like me!
Here’s to wide open spaces!
