trackback
After the Pool Party at Harbour Isles, we drove down to Lido Key to do some “window shopping” on St. Armand’s Circle at the Sarasota Exotic Car Fest.
BFF saw more than a few cars that appealed to his sense of style, if not his pocketbook, including:
* a sleek black Aston Martin that has raced down the runway at Cape Canaveral at 186 mph.
* a Rolls Royce with beautiful teak dash which BFF admired as he sat in the driver’s seat and grasped the steering wheel. Vroom . . . Vroom . . .
* a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport that made spectators gasp as they gawked.
Talk about sticker shock ~ the Bugatti Veyron, the most expensive new car in the world, sells for $1,990,000 . . . not including tax and tags.
We didn’t buy one.

For more cars you probably can’t afford: 52nd Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts World of Wheels (Third Hand Art)

While you’re at it, get one for me, too!
I am so GLAD that I do NOT have expensive tastes in cars, clothes, homes, or vacations.
Being “cheap to keep” frees up money and time for the things that really matter to me ~ love, laughter, learning, and . . . C~H~O~C~O~L~A~T~E!
And me!
I think I’d rather have a mansion by the Thames…
I would be far too nervous to drive a vehicle that cost more than the collective price of ALL the homes we’ve lived in over the past 30 years.
Here’s to mini indulgences . . . like wine, cheese, and chocolate.
I love the silver and black space ship car. But then, I would. ))
That’s the Bugatti! We won’t see many of them on the road I expect ~ all hand built.
This is truly amazing and a bit unnerving. I mean there are people without shelter or food.
I do think it would be fun to see these cars though.
I agree. If I had a million bucks burning a hole in my pocket . . . I’d rather feed starving children.
But we enjoyed looking at them.
Can you imagine how horrid it would be to drive one of these little beasties? I’d have to wear my black belt every time I drove it in case someone did anything to harm it. I’d hire guards to make certain no one parked beside me!
*Gazing with fondness at my nicked and chipped Pathfinder.*
I’m with you, Amy. I prefer my 12 year old Honda Civic . . . it’s got a moon roof for gazing at the stars!
It’s great having a partner in freedom, Nance.
Spending this kind of money for cars, art, jewelry, or any other unnecessary bauble seems rather ridiculous to me.
But some peacocks like to “strut their stuff” while flashing their feathers around.
It is still so much fun to look. I love looking at old cars.
BFF loves looking at sleek shiny cars ~ I enjoy looking at antique cars the best. If asked to pick the $2 million dollar car, I would NOT have picked the Bugatti out of a line up.
Now that I’ve seen one, I’ll probably never see another.
Seems a little ridiculous in light of all that exists on our planet, doesn’t it?
Absolutely. I can’t imagine spending that kind of money on a STATUS SYMBOL
My favorite one is the car that Donald Duck is driving (is it Donald Duck? I forget the toons, LOL)
I’m pretty sure that’s Donald . . . but he’s so tiny that I can’t be certain. I like his car too.
I might be able to afford the cute little red (Ferrari?) baby walker, but I don’t think I could run fast enough to maintain the minimum highway speed limit.
All kidding aside, it’s amazing to get a glimpse into the lives of the rich and famous. And, the cars are very beautiful!
Thank you for the pingback Nancy. I really appreciate it.
The baby walker Ferrari is regularly $189 . . . but it was ON SALE yesterday for $149. We didn’t buy it either.
The cars were gorgeous and the owners we talked to were very nice . . . just like you and me, only RICHER.
When I opened your post this morning, I felt that I was back at the car show ~ I had to link us up.
Nice to look at – that’s it! Would rather spend my hard earned cash on something more practical that I NEED!
I agree, Barb. I was even remotely interested in owning one of the cars . . . but St. Armand’s Circle is a FUN place to wander about on a warm winter’s day.
I gotta say that the little red drop top makes me smile. The one after Donald Duck. What a perfectly great day!
That’s my favorite too, Pix. Very cheery color for tooting about town.
What fun! Thanks for providing the links so we could get a look at what some people want to spend their money on.
Sounds like you had a great time…have a beautiful week!!!!
Thanks, Vivian. We have some fun events planned for this week too ~ including a Taste Around The World event, sponsored by Blake Hospital.
To quote Steve Martin (in Parenthood), and a quote Hubs and I have used OFTEN: “Let’s have a dozen and call them donuts!”
Dollars for donuts!
I have always loved cars…there was a time when I could name any car by make or model just by looking at the grill, but alas I have lost that loving feeling!
BFF is pretty up to speed on cars and can recognize most of them by sight. Me? Not so much.
Their nuances are lost on me.
My view of cars is too practical/utilitarian to fully appreciate an exotic car show. Sheesh, I balked at the 23K base price for an Accord, which is how I ended up with a Civic
Same here! I bought an Accord hatchback in 1987. After driving it for 13 years, I planned to get another Accord but they were pricey and Civics had improved in quality . . . so I bought a 2000 Honda Civic (and I’m not ready to trade it in yet).
As far as car shows go . . . BFF appreciates the cars while I enjoy wandering en plein air.
I’ve got the standard ‘My other car is a Nano’ bumper sticker on my Bugatti.
Bwahahaha! That’s perfect!
Haha, what a waste of money! I can’t even imagine how much it costs to insure it.
I know, right? The taxes alone would be more than we’ve spent on ALL the cars we’ve ever driven.
I’ll take the Bugatti Veyron… why not!
Let me count the ways . . .
Men and cars – what can I say? I’ll spend my millions on art and charity (if I had it
)
Good choices, BB ~ charity and art. But I would support the endeavors of living artists . . . becoming a patron of the arts.
I’m not interested in collecting art from the “masters.” They’ve already got people who want their work.
Does the Bugatti come in red? If so, please order one for me too.
For that price . . . it better be available in red.
