Claim What Isn’t . . . Until It Becomes June 2, 2010

220px-Francesco_Hayez_001On occasion, I’ve shared one of my favorite quotes:  “Claim what isn’t, as if it were, until it becomes.”

Sorry, I don’t know who said it.   Maybe Teddy Roosevelt? *

Anyway, today I stumbled across the perfect example of what this quote means in Nancy Curteman’s last post on Global Mysteries.

Turns out, the best way to become Emperor (even if you’re a pauper) is by self-proclamation.

Check out his story . . . or should that be history?

Emperor of the United States: San Francisco’s Emperor Norton I

Thanks for sharing, Nancy!

* * * * *

* Nope, not Roosevelt.  Hmm . . . maybe I said it?

Anyway, here’s what Teddy said:  “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”  Same cadence, similar sentiment, but not the same quote.

Thanks for plugging my post. Norton was quite a character. I love the way San Franciscans embraced him. In fact, that’s one of the things I love about the Bay area and San Francisco in particular—Live and let live. Do your own thing. If you hear a different drummer, go ahead and march to it, we’ll even join you.

Sounds like a great place to live ~

Make your own kind of music . . . even if nobody else sings along.

You and Teddy make a lot of sense.

Common sense is not so common, eh?

I’ll have to look around for more Teddy quotes. We owe him a debt of gratitude for recognizing the value of setting aside spaces for National Parks.

Along the lines of positive thinking?
Have been picturing the lottery in my bank account for ages.
Hasn’t worked.
Yet!

Maybe just claim to be fabulously wealthy . . . and see what happens.

Perhaps other fabulously wealthy people will invite you to tea, or to their weekend “cottages” to hobnob with still more wealthy folks.

Once part of the inner sanctum, you’ll have access to all the money you need ~ backing for projects, investors for patents, and producers for a movie to tell your life story. : )

Good Luck!
